"My screened in porch was weathered and the floor had rotted after 25 years. Top Notch Carpentry upgraded it to a beautiful sunroom. They not only fixed the floor but found some wood flooring that worked with our budget. That was an added bonus! They were very professional and the guys showed up when they said they would. Each day they gave 100%. This project turned out much better than I had even dreamed it would. I am hiring them again to make wood repairs on my house."

"Derrick Ross charged me $5,800; mind you, I found out later that this was labor only to replace ALL of the siding at my house, which was our verbal agreement. He had a guy come out and take all the measurements and note all of the things I would need to purchase. Derrick Ross volunteered to pick up the stuff on his trailer. Then he tells me that I need more paint, more siding, etc. I asked if he was going to pick it up. He said they would charge me $200. I told him you are the contractor, you have the equipment to pick up the stuff, and why should I have to pay you $200 for your guy not telling me the proper amount of stuff I needed when you agreed to pick it up the first time? At this point, I just wanted them to be finished. They picked up the additional equipment. He then told me I needed more paint, so I had to go purchase more. When I realized they were not replacing all of the siding, I brought it to his attention so maybe he would consider adjusting the price. He started to give me BS, so I just said, Okay, whatever. After the job was finished, I realized my back door was not closing properly after they replaced the rotten wood around the storm door. Then I noticed the framing on the inside of the door was cracked. I informed him of that. He came to look at it. I called my son to see if he was home so Derrick could come by, and I told him that Derrick Ross was going to try to give excuses as to why they were not responsible. I knew he was going to do it after dealing with him on other issues with this job. I was not home, and my son told me that he was saying that there was no way they could have done it. I told him to explain to me how it happened if no one else had worked on the house but them. He went on to give me excuses as to why there was NO WAY they could have done it. He said he would have someone come and adjust my door. I got upset with him because I paid exactly what he charged, even though he did not do the work that he said they would do. I told him, You know what? You do not even have to send anyone to adjust the door because I will get someone else to fix it. Do not do business with him because he is shady. I will not do business with him again, and I DO NOT recommend him to anyone."

"Poorly! In the process of repairing the exterior damage to our home, the interior was flood twice causing extensive damage. Mistakes happen, but the way Matt Olson handled the situation was not acceptable. We were overly patient due to the fact he was an elder at our church. The repairs he did make have to be redone. We will have to move out of our home again. It has been two years since the first flooding and we still fighting to get reimbursed. We have been forced to hire an attorney and sue Mr. Olson. We cannot accept an reimbursement from the roofers insurance until Mr. Olson agrees to handle his portion. We have not slept in our master bedroom in almost two years. The originally damage to our home did not even affect the interior of our home."

With solid construction and routine upkeep, your barndominium can last 50 to 150 years. Steel framing and metal siding resist rot and pests, but you’ll still need to reseal the roof annually, inspect fasteners, and schedule regular checks for HVAC, plumbing, and the foundation. Those quick maintenance tasks keep the structure durable, safe, and weather-tight for generations to come.
Yes. When a qualified crew builds your barndominium, the steel frame and metal siding can handle wind loads up to 150 mph. Strong anchors, reinforced concrete footings, and tough roofing panels stop uplift and leaks. Partnering with experienced engineers and contractors ensures the storm-ready details are locked in and keeps your barndo tight in extreme conditions.
They can be. Pack high-R insulation into the walls and roof, choose energy-rated windows and insulated doors, and seal every gap around framing and ducts. Combine those upgrades with a well-planned HVAC layout, and you can trim your utility bills by as much as 50 percent compared to a conventional home.
You can absolutely build a two-story barndominium. Engineered steel framing supports multiple levels and vaulted ceilings, maintaining strength without compromise. Partner up with an architect and contractor to create a custom, multi-level layout that offers open sightlines, smart design, and generous headroom—perfect for combining function and style in your dream home.
Yes, a barndominium can have a basement. Start with a custom blueprint, and you can add a full or walk-out basement instead of the standard slab. A designer and structural engineer will map out footings, drainage, and access so the extra square footage is safe, dry, and ready for storage or living space.
