"They did a super job and were patient when the concrete truck arrived late and with having not have enough concrete as ordered and had to wait for a second truck. I was very pleased with their work"

Customers say: Quality work

"Excellent work done. My job was fairly small and was completed in 3 hours (last 1.5 hours were waiting for concrete to set up so the artisans could put final trim work) . I am happy with the work and the great crew that performed the work. I would be happy to recommend this company for concrete work. Thanks Bobby and Tasha!"

"Our driveway was poured yesterday. The contractor kept us informed to when they could work us into their schedule. We had a miss understanding as to the shape that we noticed as they were placing the forms. It was adjusted right then and the extra amount of concrete was determined and a fair price for the additional mud was agreed to. When they poured they did not use as much of additional concrete and they reduced the cost to reflect this. All workers were very professional and know what they were doing. They are the only company that we got bids from that discussed the slope to drain the water off the driveway."

"Ken and his crew came early in the morning and because rain was forecast; they worked late and completed the job in one day.  <br /> He took extra precautions to minimized damage to the tree roots in the yard. <br /> Ken's concrete foreman did an excellent job of laying out the sidewalk forms.  He went  beyond specifications to assure the aesthetics of the finished product was top-notch.   <br />"

"The shed is great, the men were very profesional and on time. Also lost screen porch on the side of my house. The two men that that put the porch on again were here when they said they would be, so refreshing. Had everything they needed and put up a wonderful screen porch. I will call them again and would recomend them to my friends"

"2020 has passed and we couldn't be happier with our completed first floor project, thanks to Jim Rutherford Construction. Jim was willing to tackle what other local well known contractors were either unwilling to consider or bid so high as to be unaffordable. Our project proved to be a technical challenge from the onset, raise the ground floor by almost a foot of concrete, completely rebuild the first floor by installing 3 impact French doors, 3 impact doors and 4 impact windows, cut off support an internal staircase including modifying framing around a dumbwaiter, reframe and replace every exterior wall from 4' down. Plus an added surprise rebuilding and repairing 45' of a heavily spalled concrete tie-beam in less than a week. We're still amazed at how quickly and confidently Jim set about taking on the project, he seemed to have it figured out before we even committed to getting started. He knew just right carpenters and subs to assign the work to. Once they began, they never stopped till the project was completed. Workmanship was outstanding, inspections were a breeze. I commend Jim and his crew for the quality of work and attention to detail, no shortcuts taken, stainless hardware/fasteners throughout and only pressure treated lumber. Add them all up and we have a completely new remodeled permitted downstairs ready to withstand the elements. It is without hesitation we'd recommend Jim Rutherford Construction for any project or home construction. Professional, polite and a pleasure to do business with."

"It was a small job, but one that had kept me busy for hours: connecting my dryer to the vent on the wall. An "easy enough" project left me with cuts and sore fingers, not to mention a bruised ego. I found Tracy here on Angie's List and went to his website to put in a work order around 11:30pm. I expected someone to "get around to me" in a couple of days or so, as that is how it usually works, even though I was in desperate need of laundry! The next morning I was contacted, letting me know that he could get out there that day! He showed up when he said he would, spent very little time, and got everything connected perfectly, thereby saving my home from the inevitable lint fire from the kinked hose I had "installed." I would absolutely use them again for my handyman needs."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Mexico Beach, FL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
