"Easy process from quote to work complete. The crew worked on a few small projects -- fixed a damaged wall, repaired flooring, and installed a new toilet."

Small jobs welcome

"I've got a 112 year old hose that is pretty solid, but it had a cracked floor joist and part of the flooring wasn't properly supported. I hired Kristian and his team to install a couple of lally columns to support a carrying beam and sister a couple of floor joists. Many contractors wouldn't even return my call because I wasn't looking to complete a huge remodel job, but Kristian came over, gave me a fair verbal estimate on the spot, and worked with me on timing to complete the project. Not only that, but the solution wasn't overly complicated. The job was straightforward, completed exactly as described in the time described, and there was no scope creep. If I ever have a larger need, they'll certainly be my first call. I would highly recommend K&X construction if you need any services that they offer."

"I absolutely love the professional job Arnold’s Masonry performed at my house. Arnold is a complete professional when it comes to his work. The items I want to highlight are: · Arnold was very through and detailed in his proposal. There were NO surprises. Everything we asked for he spelled out in detail. · His estimate was by far the most economical and detailed. He detailed out all costs in the proposal. There were no hidden or missed costs. Everything was detailed out. · One thing I love is that he was a one stop guy. He managed and owned all aspects of the project. · The steps and walkway he rebuilt far exceeded our expectations. He really created a focal point to the front of my house. · His team not only performed a spectacular job in replacing the existing railings but added a walkway railing for the step there. · Also he refabricated a retaining wall next to the steps and his recommendation on the type of wall far exceeded what we had asked for. · His creation of a Belgian block edging with mulch on one side of the house and on the other side A Belgian block edging with stone fill really added a refreshing look to the outside of my house. · His team also replaced siding pieces for me that had been damaged over the years. Arnold was there for the ENTIRE time the work had to be performed. He met with me each day and kept me in the loop of his progress. Arnold kept his word on how long the project would take and when he said he would be there he was PROMPT and kept to the schedule. My wife and I are so pleased with not only with the work that was performed but with the professional and courteous manner both he and his crew treated both me and my wife. I highly recommend Arnold Masonry and Construction. I could not find a better professional to work with."

"Working with Overstate was the right choice. I had 3 companies coming in and giving me quotes to replace the entire roof , including installing new plywood since it was a cedar shake . Yani walked me through the whole process, we improved the venting which was a good thing and I got a brand new Owens Corning shingle roof . I?ll definitely recommend to friends and neighbours . "

Customers say: Quick response

"Nathan does tremendous work, at a fair price, and in a timely manner. We had a section of our exterior rot out under our siding and he made the necessary repairs with a quick turn around, and also took steps to mitigate the risk of this issue occuring again. We would recommend Nathan to our friends and family any day."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Milford, CT

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
