"It was a blessing when I found Danilo of Rad Basement WAter Control to complete the installation of sump pumps, French drains and waterproofing in my basement. Every time it rained, I felt like a prisoner in my own home, wondering how much water would come in, but once Rad Basement Water Control came they gave me a detailed quote of exactly what needed to be done to address this ongoing problem. I found Danilo to be very trustworthy, courteous, and professional. He works by example. I not only appreciated his company’s hard work, but the quality of their work. Danilo updated me daily on the progress of the work and the next steps expectations. Danilo is a true gentleman and a man of honor and I am happy to recommend his services. "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! We just had a French drain installed along with a new sump pump and pit in our basement and had the floors epoxyed afterwards. The project manager, Kenny, was absolutely amazing. From the very beginning he explained everything that their team would be doing, gave me updates throughout the day. If I had a question or concern Kenny was patient with me and continued to make sure any questions/concerns were addressed, even telling me to call him if I thought of any other questions. Their crew was very respectful of the property by making sure to lay out tarps to protect the floors, and made all attempts to manage the noise since we were home. Whatever was left in the basement they made sure to cover and protect. And if something needed to be moved they moved it and moved it back. When it came time to lay down the epoxy there was a scheduling hiccup. Kenny though went out of his way to make it right by coming right after another job and staying late to make sure we're stayed on schedule since I was having out of town guests coming that weekend and needed access to the basement. Working with Select Basement, but especially Kenny, made this one of the best experiences and I highly recommend them. 10 out of 10!"

"The best and most efficient plumbing service I have had. My sump pump decided to crap out in the middle of the night and they able to show up within an hour. Pricing was reasonable and he had my sump pump replaced very quickly. Super friendly service and am so happy with the outcome. HIGHLY recommended"

"Zach from PipeWorks came today to install a new kitchen faucet and do an annual clean/diagnostic of the basement boiler. In both cases, he discovered and patiently explained upgrades and replacements, which he performed expertly. He also answered all of my questions with care – including the dumb ones – and explained the charges clearly. Zach didn’t try to upsell me anything unnecessary – he did what he needed to do and didn’t do what he didn’t need to do. Finally, he’s a very nice and polite guy, which made the event comfortable and trustworthy. I’m thrilled with my upgraded faucet, which works perfectly, and glad to have the boiler in tip-top shape for the season. I happily recommend Zach and PipeWorks to be your in-home experts for fixes and recommendations."

"Over the past 5 years, Joseph and Sons completed several projects for us. These projects include demolishing and replacing cement front steps, adding a portico over the front steps and adding a wet laid natural thermal bluestone front walk. Angelo also completed a gravity drainage system from the sump hole in the basement to the storm drain in the street. Our sump pump has not run since then (almost 5 years). Most recently Angelo has put in a storm water drainage system which connects into the town storm drain system to prevent large amounts of ice from forming on our driveway and street. Angelo and his crew have always been careful with our property taking precautions to not damage areas adjacent to where they are working. We have been very pleased with Joseph and Sons each time!"

"The sinks are draining well. The stopper is fixed. The toilet was unclogged, but got clogged again the next day. Had to pour Ajax, and let it sit overnight to unclog the toilet again. That is the reason I have given a B, rather than an A"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Millburn, NJ

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
