"After having an in-home inspection and evaluation, I requested a formal proposal for upgrading my existing attic insulation to R-50 and also air-seal the attic against any possible air leaks. After discussing the proposal, I approved it and an installation date was set. On the day of the installation, a crew of three arrived at the scheduled time. They got right to work and had the job completed in about three hours. During the installation process, the guys took a number of photos showing each phase of the project(which were later emailed to me). I also had a chance to view the finished work before they sealed up the attic access hatch. Then, before leaving, the guys did a good job cleaning up. "Exactly as the same as the first time I air sealed my attic in my previous house. Last year when we decided to sell our house I was inspecting my house as I would have if I was purchasing it. I noticed a small (1/4") gap between the master bathroom vent fan grill and the ceiling. I could not adjust it. Upon further inspection I realize it was because the foam that was installed when my attic was air sealed had expanded creating the 1/4" gap. I had that work done two years prior by Houle Insulation. I contacted Arne and inquired if he had any suggestions. His only suggestion was that he would correct the problem. Two days later he had two workers in my attic correcting the issue. Just like the first time, they were prompt and cleaned up after the work. I offered to pay, he would not have it. He said he should have noticed when the job was originally completed two years prior. There was no discussion or haggling, he simply said he would correct it. As impressed as I was with the lower energy bill, I was more impressed with how he and his team comported themselves. Also my house was more comfortable because the temperature was more uniform within my house. This year when we moved into our new house, built in 1992, the first thing I did was call Arne to air seal the attic. My choice of whom to hire for air sealing my attic was a no brainer, Houle Insulation. They also performed a blower door test. They also sent in all the information required for me to receive an energy rebate from my utility company. The best recommendation I can make is that when I decided to air seal our new home the first person I called was Arne. He made a wise decision to correct what needed with correcting without any questions. "We hired RetroGreen to install foamed-in-place insulation in our house, which was built in 1960, with only 2" of wall insulation. For most houses, which have horizontal siding, installation is fairly simple. Our house has vertical board and batten siding, which makes the project more difficult. The installer can't simply remove a couple of courses of siding, do the work, and replace the siding. One approach for board and batten siding is to drill holes through the boards and insert plugs after installing the insulation. No matter how carefully this is done, I suspect the result would be visually unacceptable, with rows of obvious plugs around the house. Instead, I asked them to drill holes only behind the battens. I removed all of the battens, first marking the sides, RetroGreen skillfully drilled their holes within the lines, so when I replaced the battens, all of the holes were concealed. In one small area, that didn't work, so they provided plugs that closely matched the siding boards. Chris was quite helpful throughout the process, discussing options and making suggestions. The team was professional and efficient, providing protection and cleaning up on completion. The result is excellent; there is no visual evidence of the installation."
