"Master Attic removed my old and rodent infested insulation, thoroughly cleaned out all the junk in my attic, vacuumed all the dirt, debris, and rodent feces, sealed all air leaks, installed rodent-proof cages around any entry points to the attic, sanitized the entire attic space and installed new insulation throughout. Francisco and his crew were fantastic! Great job by Master Attic! Thank you!"

"The guy who came out was great. I was expecting to need to spend a lot on adding insulation to the walls and attic. The guy went around with a thermal camera and checked various spaces and recommended some stuff that I could do myself or hire an inexpensive contractor to do. Very happy that I didn't need to spend thousands of dollars!"

"James is wonderful! He came as scheduled, calling 10 min prior. After finding 3 mice + 1 vole (he could tell the difference instantly), he looked into how they got into the garage, checking the rubber along the garage doors, and possible gaps under the siding. He also looked up the work done last year to keep out rodents, to see what else can be done, and plans to request the staff to come out and check for any unexpected openings into the garage. James is very knowledgeable, complete, competent, and polite. A great asset for your company! [this was a follow-up visit I requested due to the presence of mice in the traps]"

"In the attic, we had wooden slats that covered the floor so they had to go under the floorboards. Although we were told by the salesman that there would always be a person on the other side of the wall to check for problems, the second guy was not watching and they blew a hole in the ceiling of the bedroom ( see pictures). They assured us that they would fix the hole, spackle it and repaint the ceiling. They did spackle the hole but only painted the area that they fixed - not the whole ceiling. And they did a lousy spackling job. We had to get someone else to smooth out the spackle and repaint the ceiling. We could have pushed to get them to fix the ceiling but it was late on the last day and we wanted the job done. As for the gel on the outside, the truck broke down due to the heat of the day and it took 3 days to finish the rest of the job including fixing the ceiling and the inside walls. Although the salesperson, did a first investigation of the house and said it could all be done from the outside, the workers found that one bedroom was covered in concrete so they had to drill from the inside of one of the bedrooms leaving many holes to be spackled. This time it was not so bad and we were able to sand and repaint that bedroom. But the workers could have done a better job of cleanup of the sparkle. It was all over the baseboard and the rug and we had to use rags to clean it up. We realize that things happen. And maybe we were too hopeful based on the salesman's pitch. But we would rather have had the salesperson tell us the truth about the possibility of drilling holes in the inside of the house even though he did a thorough inspection. All in all, we are hoping that insulating our house will save us a lot of money in heating costs. The manager was very accommodating, we saved some money by paying with a check vs a credit card. The workers were very nice and the lead person was very knowledgeable. Any renovation is stressful. We would probably recommend them because now we know what to expect. This company was recommended to us by a number of people. We have no doubt that the product itself is excellent. For that reason, we expected it all to go smoothly. It did not. Everything that could go wrong, basically did. It all got fixed but ... We did not plan for a hole in the ceiling, the truck breaking down and go into the shop to fix the problem with the gel overheating and not coming out of the hose fast enough, the concrete in one of the bedrooms that meant that all the holes had to be drilled on the inside of the bedroom and we had to repaint. So for those reasons, we are giving them a rating of fair. We hope your experience will be a lot better than ours !!"

The process was quick and very thorough. I could not believe the before and after photos of our system and ducts. The mold was gone. Other companys quoted us THOUSANDS more. "We contacted the Mark Group for a Home Energy Assessment because of coldness in our first floor living area and basement. Gordon performed the assessment and provided recommendations and an estimate to energy seal our basement with spray foam insulation. He assured us that having the work done would substantially decrease air loss, and as a result, the temperature of our first floor and basement would become so warm, we would be wearing short sleeves instead of sweatshirts. Gordon offered us a financial incentive to provide a deposit the day of estimate, something we rarely do. He also pointed out that the crew were professionals, and the insulation would not be sloppily applied, as was the case with a previous attempt by my husband around the circuit box. Gordon added that his crew would conduct a health/safety inspection of our existing CO detectors and install a new CO detector, if needed.
Subsequently we had the work done by 2 men who arrived promptly on the scheduled day. They took care to protect our carpet and furniture from debris, and removed and disposed of the old insulation before applying the spray foam. They did not provide any feedback on the status of our existing CO detectors but left a new one at the end of the day. Before leaving, they requested an immediate evaluation for Angie's List.  Upon a brief inspection, everything appeared to be satisfactory to my husband, and he complied by completing the form and giving all A grades.  At the time, the front door had been open for 2-3 hours; as this was necessary for proper performance of a blower door test, the house was understandably cold immediately following.
However, the next day my husband and I both noticed no difference in the temperature of the basement or first floor. Upon closer inspection, my husband observed gaps in the insulation where air flow was still evident. In our opinion, if the old dirt and debris had been vacuumed after removal of the old insulation, the spray would have adhered better, but they did not make the extra effort to do this. In addition, we saw an overall lack of uniformity in the application of the insulation. In some areas the foam was evenly applied, but more often than not, there were several areas where the foam did not completely fill the space or overflowed on to the cinder-block wall.  He promptly contacted the Mark Group and Gordon informed him that someone would contact us to schedule a return visit.  I subsequently emailed Gordon photos of the insulation and requested another thermal camera analysis. Additionally, after further inspection when moving items back into place, there was significant debris on the floor, as well as other areas of the basement that took several hours to clean up.
Approximately 5 days later, Pat came out to inspect the work done and brought the thermal camera. He performed the thermal analysis in the basement and filled in the gaps mentioned,  but explained it was difficult to evenly apply the insulation given the nature of the product and application. Also, he pointed out that due to the structure of our home, it was impossible to substantially improve the temperature in the basement and first floor without having significant structural renovations. While we appreciated Pat's honesty, we felt like Gordon made empty promises and overestimated the benefits of the air sealing.
This was one of the few times, my husband and I agreed to have work done at the time of estimate, mainly because of the majority of highly favorable reviews,  persuasive statements regarding comfort level, and financial incentive.  Looking back, however, after re-reading ?F? review, I can relate to the homeowner's frustration and regret making the decision without further questioning.

FAQs for batt, rolled or reflective insulation install or upgrade projects in Philadelphia, PA

Batt insulation excels in vertical installations because it remains firmly in place and delivers consistent thermal performance. Blown-in insulation performs exceptionally in spaces such as attics, efficiently filling gaps in irregular areas.

Employing both insulation types according to their strengths enhances your home’s overall energy efficiency and comfort by providing a tailored solution for every space.

Start by measuring the square footage of the space, then match that area with the insulation thickness you need to hit your target R-value. Add a buffer for waste and odd-shaped spots so every cavity is covered.

Once you have a rough count, run it past a local insulation pro—their on-site advice will fine-tune the numbers and help you avoid costly miscalculations.

Old insulation that is dry, intact, and mold-free does not require removal before adding new insulation; stacking new insulation over it maintains effective thermal performance and boosts energy efficiency.

If the insulation is damp, moldy, or deteriorated, removal is necessary to eliminate health risks and ensure maximum effectiveness of the new layer. A professional insulation contractor will assess your situation and recommend the most effective solution.

Installing insulation in an average-sized home using batts or boards requires five to 12 hours. Using spray foam or blown-in insulation requires two to five hours. These timeframes are determined by the area’s size, accessibility, and whether old insulation must be removed.

Complex projects and hard-to-reach spaces demand extra time. Hiring an experienced insulation professional ensures that the installation is completed efficiently and correctly.

Insulation is measured by R-value, which defines how effectively it resists heat flow. A higher R-value provides superior thermal resistance, ensuring your home remains warm in winter and cool in summer.

Choosing the correct R-value is essential for maximizing energy efficiency and comfort, and it directly impacts long-term utility savings. Professional guidance determines the optimal R-value for your specific climate.
