"Ryan was perfectly on-time and was a plumbing scholar and a gentleman. We had a simple drain replacement under a new sink. Going to Western saved me at least another day of trying to figure out proper parts and doing the install myself, and it also saved my wife's ears from hearing my salty language."

"Alan came out same day within couple of hours to clear a clogged bathtub drain. Worked on it for some time, went above and beyond to get it drained but no luck' House is 50 + years old with cast iron pipes so I was not surprised when he said ones under the tub needed to be replaced. Had been giving us trouble for several years and had been getting worse. He wrote a proposal and said he could do the next day as it was too late to start that day. James the owner showed up early next morning and went over what needed to be done. Gave a fair price and Alan showed up hr or so later and got started. Worked all day bless his heart. Got drain running smoothly. It's been about 2 weeks and all still going great. Have had a number of plumbing jobs done in the past by different companies but James Degennaro was by far the best. Both he and Alan were great and professional and did great work and clean up. .Would absolutely hire again and recommend . So glad I found them. Will need more pipes replaced in future so will be keeping them in the phone book. Patricia C. in Garden Grove, Ca."

"Parker was great. Installation was very well done and looks great. Clean up was very good. Bill Metzger Plumbing arrived when promised. Responded to phone calls promptly and were extremely professional. I had the unfortunate experience of call some competitors who never showed up for an appointment and we recommended by the manufacturer. Wish I had called Bill Metzger Plumbing first."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Service—Honest, Friendly, and Highly Skilled! We had a serious backup in one of our bathrooms, and thankfully, technician Johnny Rodriguez from Zoom Drain came to the rescue! From the moment he arrived, he was professional, friendly, and incredibly honest about the issue. He took the time to explain everything in simple terms, ensuring we understood what was happening and what needed to be done. Not only did he clear up the problem efficiently, but he also checked everything thoroughly to make sure we wouldn’t have any recurring issues. It’s rare to find someone in this industry who is both highly skilled and genuinely cares about their customers, but Johnny Rodriguez is one of those people. If you’re looking for a plumber you can trust, I highly recommend technician Johnny Rodriguez from Zoom Drain. Fair pricing, exceptional service, and a great attitude—I couldn’t ask for more!"

"The technician arrived on time, was extremely professional and very patient taking time to answer my questions regarding what I should be doing as a homeowner to maintain my system. <br /> He started by sticking his head in the opening of my attic to look at the ducts & assessed what could/should be replaced. Then he inspected my AC unit, assessed its age and "state", opened the electrical panel to review the wiring, checked the refrigerant/flow and explained the basics of maintenance. We ended up going inside to look at the air filter and while their he conducted a similar inspection on my furnace. While my AC was running he used a surface thermometer to read temps at several of my registers. He took the time to explain how to clean my coil with a hose from the outside of the condenser and to take care not to use too high pressure. <br /> In the end he made suggestions feel genuine and not like some high pressure sales tactic. I had a very positive experience and when he left I was happy to leave an A+ assessment on Angies list; however, when I reviewed what was supposed to be included in the "$39 for a Spring Air-Conditioning Tune-Up" that I paid for I realized I didn't do a good job in holding him responsible for executing everything in the package. <br /> $39 for a 20-point Spring air-conditioning tune-up <br /> Calibrating and leveling thermostat <- Didn't need doing I guess <br /> Cleaning filters as needed <-- COMPLETE <br /> Lubricating and inspecting bearings for wear  <-- didn't happen (maybe it didn't need to?) <br /> Cleaning indoor coil (if accessible) <-- don't think it was accessible <br /> Flushing and treating condensate drain with anti-algae product  <-- didn't happen <br /> Inspecting condenser coil  <-- didn't get opened to look at <br /> Monitoring operating pressures of refrigerant <-- COMPLETE <br /> Inspecting safety devices for proper operation  <-- COMPLETE <br /> Inspecting disconnect box for proper rating and installation <-- COMPLETE <br /> Monitoring volts and amps on fan motor <-- Not sure <br /> Tightening all electrical connections  <-- COMPLETE <br /> Inspecting and testing contactor for burns and/or pits  <-- INSPECTED <br /> Inspecting electrical for exposed wiring <-- COMPLETE <br /> Inspecting and testing capacitors <-- INSPECTED <br /> Inspecting fan blades <-- COMPLETE <br /> Cleaning condenser coil and removing debris <-- Didn't happen <br /> Inspecting service valves for proper operation <-- COMPLETE <br /> Measuring temperature difference between supply and return <-- COMPLETE <br /> Inspecting duct work for energy loss <-- wasn't thorough <br /> Monitoring compressor for proper amp draw, volt draw, and wiring connections <-- Not sure <br /> Reviewing the list after he left  I wish I would've insisted a better assessment of the ducting in my attic & that they cleaned the AC condenser coil.  <br /> I don't think there was any willful negligence on the techs part to get out of work, and ultimately I think I paid a fair price for what was completed. Even though Excel Air missed a few things from the package I would use the company again and would even recommend them to friends with the caveat to make sure you know what services are to be rendered before they arrive (and not after like I did). <br />"

"This was a difficult project, owing to the no-cripple-wall construction of my house and the ridiculously tight crawl space - less than a foot in critical spots - plus the maze of beams and ducts. I called six or seven plumbers to come out and bid the work and two of them ran screaming (well, not really, they just told me they needed to work up an estimate 'back at the office' and never called back). One guy swore I'd have to rip out a wall AND the floor to get to the pipe. Mr. Rooter didn't propose anything so dramatic. They just said they'd excavate as needed to make room to move around. So that's what they did. They billed it as a two-day job. They showed up on time, and the work was wrapped up by the third hour of the second day. Because that, I was concerned this job had been overbilled. Their bid had been astronomical, but it was still lower than everyone's except the guy with the lapsed bond. Mr. Rooter had been willing to negotiate and I knocked about $650 off their initial bid. They took another $200 off at the back end because of my concern with overbilling. They didn't have to do that since they had a signed contract in hand, but they were willing to take care of a customer. Thumbs up for that. The work looks solid, as far as this layman can tell. Everything drains as it should and none of the joints leak."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Mission Viejo, CA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
