"Closets by Design did a fantastic job designing and installing a custom walk-in closet for my bedroom. Amy Vanlacken performed the sales consultation and was pleasant, professional, and thoroughly knowledgeable. She did a great job answering my questions. She did a thorough job promoting the product while not pressuring me to purchase upgrades/options I did not want. Thank you Amy! As for the installation, Jim Burdon was my installer. Jim was polite, professional, talented, and took great pride in his work! I could not be happier with the installation. Thank you Jim! I now have a closet that exceeds expectations!"

"We went to their showroom looking for flooring for our living and dining rooms They had a sample of laminate flooring on a portion of their showroom floor that caught my eye. They let us take samples home and see how it would look in our home. We also got estimates from other companies in the mean time. We were back and forth to the shop several times and I took a long time to make my decision. Folgelsongers was very patient and helpful. Finally after I made my decision I changed my mind and chose a different grade of flooring and still they were very accomodating. When it came time for installation their people were super. They used this fantastic cutting machine and did the whole project in one day. They really seemed to know what they were doing. I would recommend this company use them again. <br />"

"<p>I have an "L" shaped living room and dining room. I was replacing the carpeting in the two rooms that are connected. I had all the old carpeting removed. I purchased the a carpet and it took two weeks before the carpet was delivered to the store. I asked the salesman at Home Depot about furniture moving. The salesman (Kirk) stated that I would have to pay an additional $150.00 if I had any furniture that had to be moved. I didn't have a problem paying for them to move a few piece of large furniture. I am a widow and live alone. I had emptied EVERYTHING out of my desk (which is a three piece "L" shaped design), my entertainment center (which is three separate pieces) and my curio cabinet. The only other furniture in the 492 sq ft area was a sofa, daybed frame, a two drawer file cabinet, and a three drawer side table. The two installers came in and the first thing stated to me was "why is there furniture in here? we can't install carpet with furniture. There is no way to stretch it". I explained I had paid for them to move the furniture and that they could move it all in one room while they install carpet in the other room. The one installer complained he didn't like moving furniture because of his back and that he wasn't going to touch my sectional desk. This desk was moved a week earlier by Andy's remodeling crew (a contractor I hired to handle the storm damage) with no complaints. The installer wanted to reschedule for another day when it wasn't raining and they could move all my furniture in the front yard. <br /> <br /> I unscrewed the four bolts and MOVED the three pieces by myself while they watched. The main guy spent the next 25 minutes on the phone complaining to his boss (I assumed). Finally he said they would lay the carpet if I would "sign off" that eventually the carpet might wrinkle because BOTH rooms weren't totally empty. I didn't understand the problem because it was two separate pieces of carpet seamed where the rooms joined. <br /> <br /> I gave in because a tornado had touched down two months earlier, destroyed my car and 7 trees were uprooted and one landed on my roof. After living in a mess for two months with people in and out of my house, I just wanted my life back to normal. BIG MISTAKE. It took about 2½ hours for them to complete the carpet installation. I wasn't feeling well at the time and then I had two family emergency's to deal with and didn't get to fully inspect the entire carpet installation. Immediately after they left I noticed they had not done transition strips on the hardwood floor and tile that lay next to the carpet. I specifically showed them the area's and told them what I expected before they started. They also cut the carpet crooked and left a triangle shaped hole in one of the corners. It was ten days later when I began to see what a terrible job that they had really done. The carpet didn't look right next to the base molding trim. Instead of installing the carpet UNDER the trim they came just up to it, leaving a gap and a RAW carpet edge showing. I literally could easily pick up the carpet by just grabbing a couple of strands of carpet. When I vacuumed the carpet moved and slightly lifted up, and forget using the vacuum edge tool because all that did was pull off carpet loops. <br /> <br /> I caught my toe on the carpet next to the hardwood (the area is a heavy traffic area) and the edge of the carpet lifted up and one of my toes ended up on the carpet tack strip underneath. I called Home Depot and talked to Keith and was told he would see how to resolve the problem. A couple days later I received a call from a clerk at Anderson Installation (the company Home Depot hired to install the carpet) stating they would have two men come out to correct the problem in four days.</p> <p> They installers came but were not prepared to fix the problems. WHY? I don't understand why they came to my house without the proper tools or shims to fix the problem areas. They left without doing anything.</p> <p> The installers were awful on this job. I called and voiced my concerns for the third time. It took another house call before they finally got the job done. Anderson installers did NOT listen to my requests and should of had this job done after two separate visits. I love the carpet but would not buy it at Home depot again if they continue to use this installation company.<br /> <br /> </p> <br />"

"Bill came to the house the same day I called him. He measured and discussed installation. The next day he called with the estimate. I agreed to it, and gave him a deposit check the following day. The carpet came in when promised, and the installation dates were confirmed. Bill needed a second check before bringing the carpet. Installation took two days as planned. The installation quality is excellent. Bill and his son even helped me move large furniture I couldn't handle alone. When installation was complete I gave Bill the final check. Total cost met the estimate. You have to look past the long hair, because Bill does excellent work on time and at cost. <br />"

"Chad and Kyle called and could come earlier than scheduled, and that was great for us. They wore shoe protectors when coming in and out of the house, and protected our wall corners from the air duct exhaust hose. They were extremely professional and got right to work. We could hear all the 20+ years of debris going out through the air duct hose. Not sure if previous owners of our house ever ducts cleaned before, but we're sure glad it was done right for us. After the ducts were cleaned, they got right to work on the carpet. It looked so much brighter when they were done. They used their truck mounted extraction method, and it didn't take too long for the carpet to dry afterwards. Would highly recommend! They will be our go-to cleaners in the future!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Montrose, MI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
