"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Paul did an inspection for us on our 1st home we purchased and we appreciated him explaining everything in detail, he was thorough and took his time, so we requested him for the inspection of a new to us (1930's) house we were looking at. Again he was thorough and explained things, was open to questions, in fact, he welcomed them. He answered questions and stayed on task, he was very personable. When he was finishing up he told us if we did any of the recommended changes he would come back to inspect the changes at no cost!"

"We bought the simple radon detection test and found that we had a serious radon problem. Our test restults came back at 50 pc vs. the 4 that is allowed. I got three estimates from radon abatement companies. While all of the do work in this area and are licensed, Premier Basements is local. (One contractor services all of Idaho and the other is based out of Spokane.) Also, they matched another contractor's slightly lower rice and were available sooner to start the work. They put in the system as promised and did a great job. They kept the worksite clean and cleaned up after themselves when they were done. Unfortunatlely, the system they put in didnt' bring our radon level down enough. They were reading about 9 with the new system. HOWEVER, Premier Basements guarantees their work, so they came back and put a bigger fan on the system and retested. They got the levels down to 0.4, which we were very happy with. Our dealings with Monte, Heather, and the two installers were excellent. They area ll professionals and did their jobs well. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for radon abatement work. I would also give them a call if I had a wet basement or needed other work in their areas of expertise. We were very satisfied. Mary"

"We had Dean over for our home inspection. He was on time and took his time to do the inspection. He took a good 5 hours to go over each items and made notes. He had good pragmatic approach to test the rotting wood and tools to measure things like carbon monoxide and thermal leak. <br /> <br />Overall I think he did a very good job of inspection. He would take pictures of things to show the problems. He would run all appliances to ensure they are in running condition. After going with him over each components I felt like he did an excellent job of home inspection. He would also explain things that you may have questions about. I would definitely recommend Dean for home inspection. He charged $330 for 3900 sq ft home inspection in Moscow area. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Moscow, ID

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
