"Nicolas removed a tree from our front yard. He was really efficient and pleasant to work with. I have owned a business for over 30 years and worked with many contractors. I would highly recommend him! He is also very affordable."

"Cochran installed new half-round galvanized seamless gutters on my home located in a historic district in Indianapolis. Several install companies I contacted either didn't reply or wouldn't take on the job. Cochran was more than willing to help me achieve my goals. I was surprised to learn half-round gutters could be done seamlessly. The PM assigned to my project provided exceptional service. The whole process was very simple and easy to understand. At all points of the process I felt well taken care of. Cochran focuses on effective communication which is hard to find as a homeowner seeking services. The material used on the project exceeded my expectations and the install crew was very knowledgeable, friendly, left our home in great condition, and provided a finished product that we are extremely happy with. I would highly recommend Cochran for any of your exterior home needs."

"Roofing Service Specialist LLC did a great job for us. Bill Scott the owner came out personally to talk to me about possible solutions for replacing the down spout. I had called five different companies and all but Roofing Service Specialist LLC treated me as if my job was too small for them to even bother with or quoted me and obscene minimum of 350.00 for the job.  Mr. Scott came up with a solution that allowed us to re-use the existing down spout and cost us less than half of what the other companies wanted to charge. He was friendly and honest and made me feel like he cared about my job, even though it was small. I will use Roofing Service Specialist LLC in the future and would recommend them to anyone. I've already recommended them to my brother and his wife.

"Oother than delays getting the work started, it went perfectly. We found that there was a hole in the ceiling after the roofing, it was fixed in a timely fashion to our satisfaction. Gutters were also installed . Both crews were respectful and efficient at their jobs. We are extremely happy with the quality if work."

"Great experience! Tim was friendly, professional, and quick. We were told by another company that the work we needed done would be very expensive and we would have to wait until after the holidays to start the job. Tim was a terrific communicator- he always called back, assessed what we needed done quickly, and was able to fit us into his schedule in time for the holidays. His quote was fair and we happily paid the price for the job well done."

"I am looking at getting the roof of my house replaced. I called Eric to give me an estimate. It was pretty hot when he came to look at the roof. He looked around pretty thoroughly and spent a lot of time explaining issues/options. His estimate looks very reasonable. We gave it a long consideration. Ultimately we decided to give our roof another year or two. But I am likely to have him do the job for me when the time comes, as it shortly will.

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Muncie, IN

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
