"They have a sense of urgency in communicating with you during the bidding process and the price exceeded my expectations, very reasonable for lawn care. Additionally they provide Tree Planting, Fence and Lawn Repair services as a one-stop-shop. They are in the process of working me into their schedule, and I’m expecting great service in getting my lawn back into shape done by a professional company."

"Greg came out and quoted the job and asked for us to mark all drainage tile and wires with flags so that his crew would not damage anything. After the install I noticed that our yard was very wet after a light rain shower. We were having sod laid the next week so I was concerned. When we dug up the tile line we saw that the Winchel irrigation broke our drain tile in 2 places. I called Greg and told him I was upset. Greg said that he was there when his crew installed the system and that they fixed any of the tile lines that were hit. Since then we have had our sod installed $$$$. After 2 days of medium rain, I noticed 2 holes approx. 12” round and 18” deep. The cause, 2 additional areas where Winchel cut through our tile line. Our new tile lines are clogged with dirt. Our new sod is like mush because the water is not draining. We hired this job out so that we could enjoy our summer. But instead we are pulling up very expensive sod and repairing what Winchel destroyed. WHY DID THEY WANT US TO MARK THE TILE LINES WITH FLAGS IF THEY WERE JUST GOING TO DESTROY THEM ANYWAYS????? Here is the kicker... My husband asked why we weren't informed that our tile lines were hit. The answers was customers don't want to know."

"I needed to fix the vacuum back pressure valve on my underground sprinkler system. I talked to Ted at Fliers and he was able to help me identify the valve manufacturer...as the label on the valve had worn off. Once that was done he made sure they had the parts in stock so I didn't make the 30 mile drive of nothing. He had the parts waiting for me behind the counter. Ted also spent a lot of time with me explaining what not to do this coming fall to make sure the system was drained properly so I didn't have to replace this valve again. He was very knowledgeable and willing to work with me. He also explained that they are always willing to work with you over the phone to provide assistance. <br /> It was worth the 60 mile round trip to work with Ted. I can see why Fliers is celebrating their 50th anniversary this week. They get customer service. <br /> Thanks to Ted and Fliers for their help. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Due to some patio work this summer, we had to reconfigure part of our sprinkler system. We used Schepers at the recommendation of our lawn guy and were very disappointed. We believe we were overcharged for the work and we are not completely satisfied with all of the work completed. First, Schepers employs a tactic of rounding up every visit duration to the next higher half-hour. In our case, we had one crew make two visits. They then inexplicably sent a second crew for the second visit, and the second crew showed up toward the end of the work period. We were not sure why they were even there, as the other crew could have easily handled the job and were mostly finished by the time the second crew showed up. When we disagreed about the time that the workers were at our house, as we kept careful track, we were informed that that extra time covered the additional crew members. In addition, both visits were rounded up, and one additional rounding up was made for the second crew. In other words, they took three opportunities to add to our bill instead of rounding up the final total time only once. This rounding up policy essentially overcharged us by 1.0 hours. At $160 per hour, that really hurts. Secondly, some of the sprinklers were installed too low in the ground. When they were put in, we hadn't put the new grass down yet. Maybe they set it at the right height without grass, but now that the grass has grown in, the sprinklers appear too low. We'll likely have to have these adjusted next season, but we won't call Schepers to do it given their accounting practices. Both my husband and I called independently and spoke to different people in the office to complain about this billing practice. While polite, they were unwilling to consider our concerns and did not budge on the charges, not even as a concession to keep us as customers. In fact, when we complained, they tried to say that we should be lucky that they didn't charge us drive time. This “drive time” was not disclosed in any way when we first called to make a service appointment and inquired about their charges. We find it ridiculous and unacceptable that Schepers’ management would try to use that to defend their unfair billing practices. The guys who showed up were friendly, helpful, and overall didn't do bad work. However, as mentioned, we will need some adjusting to the installed height of some of the sprinkler heads and we certainly won't be calling Schepers again because we don't want to be overcharged. Besides, there are other companies in town."

"Mike Wahlfield arrived promptly, diagnosed all issues accurately, and scheduled same-day service at a fair price. The installers, Mike & Paul, also arrived promptly and completed the installation within 58 minutes. This company installed the original well in 1998. The holding tank has a life expectancy of 10 - 15 years; the replacement is even better quality. Even though the final installed price was higher, the company agreed to honor the original quoted estimated price with a senior discount. I would recommend this company to anyone seeking their services."

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in Muskegon, MI

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
