"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Dave explained in detail the home inspection and what was included.  He is knowledgable and provided a complete price quote for three inspections that I was requesting.  He was prompt and found a structural problem with the condo.  I was able to renegotiate the purchase contract. Written inspection reports and radon testing were delivered promptly. <br />"

"Steve was great! This was our first home purchase and Steve was recommended by our realtor and friends. He was not alone on the inspection he also had his son and a person he was training accompany him.  He took the time to go through the house and explain to me what he was putting into his report.  He also had lots of handy tips if something did need fixed (like the gas valve that should be fixed when we eventually replace the hot water heater). <br /> The fact that Steve's entire report is electronic is very nice as well.  It gave my husband piece of mind that even though he couldn't be there for the inspection that he could read the report right when he got home from work. <br /> Thanks Steve! <br />"

"I google searched radon map view in the Grand Rapids area and called a number of places. This provider had the most thorough checklist of questions about my house, provided the most comprehensive email written quote, has the longest fan warranty (all have lifetime workmanship...but this company is national, so it's more likely to be around) and was the cheapest. Nick was my installer and did a great job and actually recommended and installed a cheaper option than I contracted over the phone. Professional, detailed and provided a lot of good knowledge for me as a homeowner. I'd recommend their service over other more expensive providers."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Muskegon, MI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
