"Dr. Electric SAVED ME MONEY!. He called before he came out and I described the situation. My outside circuits were not working and the circuit breaker was not tripped. He asked me if I had a GFI plug on that circuit and said there is a reset button on it which might be the problem. That was the case and VOILA the problem was fixed. Thank you Dr. Electric. I will definitely call you the next time I have electrical needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Scott initially worked on bringing our electrical up to code on a new home purchase. Over the year after that, we hired him for additional house wiring as well as adding a sub panel. High quality work, excellent customer service, reasonable pricing and kept us up to date with project updates or changes. 11/10 stars!"

"They were able to send someone the next day. It was a small job (replace a light switch and a gfi outlet). Chase was very courteous and professional. He completed the job quickly. I felt the price was competitive. I’ll likely hire them again when I need electrical work."

"The initial technician arrived on time and began the initial inspection. After trouble shooting he determined the issue was likely a loose wire/short somewhere in the ceiling junction box jungle. He immediately called in two additional hands on the logic that the time saved would be greater than the cost of one man T/S the entire ceiling alone. He was right. Within fifteen minutes of putting ladders into the drop ceiling, all light was restored and the flicker, dimming issue was gone for the first time in three years. The secured all boxes, re-seated all tiles and swept the floor of drop ceiling dust. The bill was much more reasonable than expected. The entire crew was clean, polite and knowledgeable. Master Electrician/Sammy Rubin are on our permanent vendor list."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in New-Castle, AL

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
