"I just bought a 100-year-old house with knob and tube wiring. They did a complete rewiring basement to attic with a 200 amp breaker box. The work was very high quality and done in a timely manner. They kept me updated throughout the entire project. Cutting and drilling into walls and floors is unavoidable for a project of this scope. They minimized that as much as possible and did the repair work well. The final price was more than reasonable. I would hire them again for any future electrical work if needed. I would tell anyone I know who needs electrical work to hire them."

"Great experience. Owners and techs were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Had a pseudo-emergency with my electrical panel. They contacted me, set up a remote estimate for the following morning, and were able to start and complete the work that same day for a not-absurd fee. Highly recommended."

"Super knowledgeable and professional electrician. I needed to have my panel upgraded to support some new woodworking equipment and they got everything done in a few short hours. I was expecting to pay much more for this service but to my surprise Best Electric got me up and running with my new machines while staying under my original budget. Their work is solid. Honest. Reliable. No corners cut. Will definitely be calling again for any future projects."

"It was nice working with Stonehouse Electric. It was a pretty big project as the entire house needed rewired. Being able to hit the "easy button" and have them come in and do everything took a lot off of my plate. On bigger projects, it is easy to have misunderstandings or changes along the way. Whenever this did happen, they were quick to step in and fix things and make it right at every turn. I would definitely do business with them again."

"Tom did a great job and was very quick to answer any of my questions installing my new electric panel, 220 outlet and a 110 outlet that I sprung on him last minute. He did what was promised and went above and beyond for me with anything I needed. Also was a nice down to earth guy. I didn't know that labeling my electric panel wasn't required but I wanted it done and Tom just wanted to make me happy so he went above and beyond again and stayed extra to label the panel."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in New Castle, PA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
