"They tuck pointed my fireplace chimney which was badly in need of work, and repaired a wide crack on the front side of my brick house. A number of bricks needed replacing. Great job at a great price."

"From the very beginning, Jamie Shea was easy to work and very personable. He helped us pick the right color and proper stone to update the look of the fireplace. Once we selected the stone, Jamie made a site visit to measure the fireplace and walk us through the process. From the day we signed the contract to the date of the install, he was prompt and courteous. The mason crew Jamie works with, were prompt, courteous and did outstanding work. We couldn’t be happier with the finished project. The fireplace is a now beautiful focal point in our living room. I would highly recommend Fireside Hearth and Home. And if you are lucky enough to work with Jamie Shea, you will very be pleased with his positive, can do attitude."

"I initially contacted CK Tile and Stone in May and they said they were swamped as a result of their 'Big Deal' promotion $550 for 40 Sq ft of back splash till end of July (fancy designs, materials, could cost extra). We decided that we'd wait for things slow down for them. Then in July they said they had a cancellation and could fit us in.
We had already purchased our tiles and we took longer to come up with a design for the section above the range while they were on-sitee. We had an additional area at the table next to the pantry that that worked on as well. This was a 2 day effort to let the grout/tile adhesives to dry. They were accommodating to our design ideas and provided ideas of their own.
The overall workmanship and quality looks great! They cleaned up the left over debris and materials. They came back a 3rd day since we requested additional caulking and sealing (for the limestone tiles). We are very satisfied and would love to have them over to do the same when we decide to finish our basement!

"Of all the masonry contractors I've been seektng for over a year concerning my chimney which was in much need of repair. Tim with RRR returned my call promptly and came for a estimate the next morning.. AND! sold me the work at a price that beat the few others that came, explained the process clearly and had a crew here within a week. AND! the work they did was hard, professonal, clean and timely by a well mannered crew. Nate and the guys were a joy to have work on my house, they are knowledgable, polite, safe and funny. I would recommend them and most definitely hire them again if I need more done to the brick on the house."

"This was the second project that Genadek was hired for.  The reason Genadek was rehired to do work that no other contractor seemed to want to take on was because the company delivers what it says it will.  The first project was an extensive drain tile system with permeable pavers and a french drain, which has provided a beautiful place to entertain as well as much needed management of a high water table.  And when Genadek encountered issues with the high water table, they researched and came up with a plan - a plan that became the solution we had been searching for going on 6 years.
On both projects, Genadek was upfront about changing conditions of the project and gave us the information necessary to make a decision.  At no point was there a feeling that Genadek was doing anything other than respecting us and the financial constraints of the projects.  It is impossible to expect a bid to always be perfect down to the last penny, however Genadek makes a concerted effort to do just that and when they cannot - you will know why.
When Genadek finishes a project, they clean up the worksite and leave it as they found it so there is no delay in your enjoyment.  There is not doubt that this is a company that is choosing to do business the right way - respecting clients - and should be supported for it."

"A previous chimney inspector had recommended I do a clean/sweep. I purchased the "Early Bird Chimney Inspection, Sweep and Cleaning" deal from AngiesList in late July 2012. I contacted Midwest Home Services initially by phone (voicemail), and then three times by email between August and November requesting an appointment. In response I received a total of one email response from the owner saying that my coupon would be honored, but with no details about how to set up an inspection. Finally in November I went to their website, where I discovered that they do appointments online, and that the earliest available appointment was not until January.
I've just now had my appointment. The service person said my chimney looked fine from the outside, though I had only a few months ago learned it needed to be rebuilt due to cracks in the stucco. Then he said I needed tuck pointing in the fireplace and two caps (both of which I knew). He said it did not need to be cleaned or swept and that over-sweeping was not good for the chimney, which is OK with me but frustrating because it was not what my previous inspector told me. He said that if I hired him to do the tuck pointing then he would do a sweep at that point, though it didn't need it. He was not here for very long, and because it was the sweep/cleaning I was after I didn't feel that his visit was worth even $99, much less the $359 sticker price.
Based on challenges setting up an appointment and the service person's not noticing a major problem with the chimney, I would not recommend this company. I liked that there was a way to set up appointments online, but the owner needs to tell people that it exists, because I wasted four "early bird" months trying to get something set up by phone/email.

FAQs for brick or stone tuck pointing projects in New Prague, MN

Masons charge between $70 and $110 per hour. A mason may have a minimum service fee ranging from $80 to $300. Most bricklayers offer free estimates and charge only if you proceed with the project. This clear pricing model assures that professionals inspect your property before beginning work and charge based on your project’s actual requirements.

A professional repointing lasts 20 to 30 years without maintenance and extends up to 50 years when maintained diligently. This process protects your brickwork using high-quality materials that ensure lasting performance and durability. Consistent upkeep preserves its strength and appearance, providing enduring protection and enhancing your home’s overall structural integrity for decades.

You know your house needs repointing when you notice clear signs such as cracked, flaking, or missing mortar and visible discoloration on the brick surfaces. Additional indicators include loose bricks, water damage, and gaps between the brick joints that compromise the overall integrity of the structure. Addressing these issues promptly protects your investment and sustains the durability and curb appeal of your home.

A house needs repointing to preserve both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mortar acts as a vital bonding agent that holds the bricks securely together. When the mortar deteriorates, it exposes the structure to water infiltration and further decay, increasing the risk of costly repairs. Repointing stops decay and reinforces the exterior, ensuring long-term protection.
