After he caulked the exposed nails and re-secured the headwall flashing, he showed me photos of the completed work. He said that if that these repairs didn't solve the problem, he would recommend replacing the flashing and the affected shingles. It is now seven months later, and I haven't had a single problem with the roof since then.
