The workers were very polite. They cleaned up everything. They had to throw down a lot of damaged tiles, and stuff. They swept up the front of my house, and it looked better than when they came. I even called the owner up and told him how pleased I was. Being an woman, I always fear they see a woman, you never know when they might say lets get this woman. I think I paid a fair price, I paid for the job I got. I was very satisfied. A lot of times, what are you going to do jump on your roof, and see if its done right. I had done my research on them. I had an neighbor who use to do roofing when he was a young man. He would tell me look over here, its a great job. The membranes are done right, look at the gauge on the copper. I paid for it, but I got a good job. Being an woman, people might take an advantage. They were running around in Queens, roofers, said, you needed a new roof. A woman paid $4000, and she thought she was getting a new roof, but she got the silver coating. They were actually on the news. About how the home owners were getting rip offs with silver paint. Its silver coating to make your roof last longer. It reflects your roof in the summer, and reflects the cold in the winter. I got what I paid for. Not cheap. They even came a little earlier. I hopefully don't have to use them.

The quality of work was superb, the handling of difficult issues that arose was quick and competent, the work was done on schedule, and the reviews we got from our residents were excellent. JP not only hires skilled painters, he worked with us extensively prior to the job starting to help us choose colors, discuss all the various types of paints we could use, suggest the right paints for this type of job, and he flagged problems that he foresaw prior to starting so we could address them. He showed great patience in dealing with our 7 member Board, and in handling the few residents who had their own concerns. "Two guys showed up on time and got to work immediately inspecting and vacuuming and snaking the fireplace and chimney flue. They operated form the roof and inspected the entire chimney from top to bottom. Both men answered my lay questions kindly and with plenty of detail about minor and major issues they found and the forecasted schedule of when I should address them. They did NOT do the classic inspect-and-force-you-into-buying-a-new-liner routine and that was much appreciated.  They took their time and did not rush the service or question/answers. "To many other roofers in the NYC Greater region- take note, Vandelay has you beat by quite a bit in terms of understanding a client and the particular needs of the job.  I went through a half dozen estimates and site visits; Vandelay and one other contractor where the only ones who were able to produce a timely, considered estimate.  And this was in the down season!
Regarding the job itself.  It presented several unknowns that Bob and his crew were able to work through and develop solutions to in a timely manner.  The demo went smoothly as well as the new installs and final flashing and chalking details.  At this point, the new roof has been through several storms and seems to be doing quite well.  If there is a problem, Bob seems more that capable to address per the contract, which I certainly appreciate.
Its clear he has a lot of experience doing what he knows, and doing it well.  He has good intuition and understanding of a job and the individuals and characters that might be involved, and how to work with them effectively (including myself likely :)
I've been through a couple of roof jobs at this point on various structures, and felt confident with Bob throughout the job; there were no instances that I felt were be minimized or neglected.  And importantly for a Condo building in NYC, Bob's crew made sure that they premise was CLEANER than when they left which is often a big deal with testy unit owners.
Overall, very pleased with both the estimation process, keeping on budget and timeframe and delivering a sound roof in material and craftmanship.  Highly recommended.
