"I waited a month before getting a test kit I called and was told there was something wrong with the Angies list orders but that I would be receiving a kit soon. It wouldve ben nice if they called me to tell me that though. The test results were quick and on par with other radon test I had done locally."

"David completed a thorough inspection of a house I wanted to purchase. He looked at every component and system from the roof to the basement & foundation both inside and out. He pointed out any areas of concern, as well as the positive aspects. His report was delivered in a timely manner, via email that same day & through the mail a few days later. I would definitely hire again."

"David was friendly, punctual, very thorough and made me feel comfortable during a stressful time. He explained everything, took his time and did what he said he was going to do, which is a big thing for me and the inspection report was emailed to us the same day. In a short time frame that we had for the inspection he called me the same day and was out within 2 days. Other inspectors took 2+ days to call back and had to get another inspector to do radon inspection. He did it all. Thank you so much, David!"

"Mr. David Hardy was waiting for us at the appointed time and I accompanied him during the inspection with one exception. The way into the attic crawl space was via a door in the ceiling of the garage and he had to climb up using an extension ladder. I was concerned that the bathroom exhausts were not vented to the outside. They were not, and he took pictures to show me. Mr. Hardy was excellent and very knowledgeable. He emailed me a detailed report complete with photos by the same afternoon. The radon test that I requested required two days to complete, and I had those results by email as well. I would highly recommend him."

"We scheduled a home inspection on 1/4/12 unforunately when we arrived some of the utilities had been turned off. Gee Basista inspected everything except issues with the water and gas lines. We were able to return on 1/10/12 to complete the inspection as well as to perform a radon test. We were very pleased with the service we received and both Gee and George both acted in a professional manner. Information was reveiled about the property we would not have know otherwise."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Niles, OH

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
