Ranch's estimate was less expensive and had an optional repair on a side piece of the roofing that the other firm did not notice. "Hugo, the owner, was very accommodating. I had a badly leaking flat roof, which is a small section of my entire asphalt, gabled roof. I called many roofers to get an estimate for a repair rather than a full roof replacement--since I could not afford the cost of an entire roof replacement at that time. All other contractors/roofers only wanted the larger job of a full roof replacement--which I could not do at that time. Although a complete roof replacement would have been ideal, Hugo understood my situation and agreed to do just the flat roof repair, which included replacing the rubber roof. He came to my home that same day and gave me a reasonable estimate. Even though he was in the middle of a large, complete home renovation project, he scheduled my repair two days later in the morning and finished the job by noon. "Initially they were responsive and got to the job quickly. They started one day later than their initial estimate and finished the job in a day and a half. The roof has gone through the Arthur downpour with no apparent leaks.
The cleanup wasn't perfect, as there were small pieces of old roofing and cellophane strips left on the ground. In a couple of places where the roof changed direction the shingles didn't conform fully to the shape leaving some gaps. Also, when they reflashed around the chimney they put the new flashing one course above the old flashing, rather than digging out the old flashing and inserting the new material in the same place.
When I called about the issues they were pleasant, but it took a few weeks for a representative to come out and review things, and then three more weeks for them to come to resolve the first two issues. The flashing is just the way they do things and is OK.

"I have an interlocking shingle metal roof that needed a new vent pipe boot put on it by someone specially trained to work on this kind of roof. After other roofers had previously come by only to say they were not able to work on this kind of roof, Anthony and Aaron from Tar Star came by within an hour of my request for an estimate. They quoted me a fair price (better than other quotes I got) and best of all, they knew what they were doing and special ordered the right boot and put it on the very next morning. Both were very polite and professional and got it done quickly. 10/10 would recommend, and they will be my first call if I ever need something done involving my roof again. Thanks guys!"
