"Darrell did a lovely new set of front porch stairs for us. He ordered the materials, brought everything to our house, and cleaned up when he was done. He was very kind and easy to work with as well!"

"Nate is a good craftsman. He has varied skills that can be used in maintaining a house including minor electrical, fence /gate modifications, drywall repairs, painting, and mounting artwork. I've had to hire him to fix jobs other handymen have botched."

"Marcus did a wonderful job with helping me with my wood driveway gate in a very timely manner. The gate is beautiful and sturdy. He gave me a great price, helped with a back open area and even cleaned up when he was done. I look forward to working with him on future projects!"

"We are so happy with BKG! Noelle from BKG designed our kitchen to change the layout and add a dishwasher and island that we desperately needed and wanted. We went to her after working with two other companies that weren't able to give us what we wanted in our design. Noelle was quick to answer our questions, provide the renderings, and respond to additional questions as we were ordering appliances to fit. She is the most patient person and great at problem solving! Her industry knowledge helped us to order the right size appliances so we could get everything we wanted in our kitchen, like my farmhouse sink! The install crew was fantastic too. They assembled all of our cabinets on floors that were just refinished the week before without a single scratch!"

"They did an exceptional job.  From start to finish I was completely impressed with Chris.  They did a phenomenal job and in labor I paid less than $2000 to do the work.  They started approximately on January 23rd.  Chris is coming back in August to build me a bathroom down here and he's also going to close off my laundry room.  I spent less than $2000 in labor only and that has nothing to do with the materials.  I wanted to buy my own material because I wanted to get my gas free."

"I contacted 3D Elite Construction through Angie's today, needing this wall hanging cleaned. Loosh and DJ came out a few hours later. The wall was in the middle of the first and second story. This was nailed to the wall in 1992. I was not able to get to it to clean it Loosh and DJ was able to put up a long ladder against the wall. They then cleaned it using my vacuum cleaner. The wall hanging looked 100% better when they finished. I would recommend 3D Elite Construction for ANY job you may have."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in North Lima, OH

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
