"Mark at MW electric was outstanding. He took a difficult challenge and did a super great job installing a new transfer switch to my house electrical panel, which will allow me to hook up a generator and run my house if there is an electrical outage. I couldn't be happier, and he is great to work with and reasonable. I will hire him again."

"Impressed with Luis & team. First installed new outlets for a TV, moved an outlet, installed outdoor lights, then upgraded my electric panel. Each time great work, very reliable, and I know it’s fairly priced."

"We needed a NEMA 14-50 EV charger installed outdoors for an electric car, and got 3 quotes from Angie's List. Based on the 3 bids, it seemed certain we'd need a subpanel breaker box installed as our main breaker box was full and there were no empty slots to assign to the EV charger. However, only Tommy from Fairway offered up a potential solution within the existing breaker box, if they were able to source a hard to find quad breaker. It seemed unlikely, but would save a lot of hours (new box install / wiring under the house) and money. Sure enough, he source the part and made it happen. On top of that, they were professional and easy to work with. Highly recommend!"

"3 ceiling fans and 1 ceiling light were installed in 1 day as promised. I like that they text me a day before to confirm/remind me of the upcoming appointment, and that they show up on time. They were courteous and professional. They cleaned up, patched up, and vacuum after the job. I'm pleased with the job performed and would definitely use them again for any future electrical related jobs."

"I called Chris on a Friday evening and told him that the light wasn't working in the bathroom in my condo which I rent out.  He said he had plans on Saturday but that he would work me in first thing in the morning before he went to his program because he understood the inconvenience of not having any light in the bathroom. He was prompt and professional.  He figured out the problem and fixed it within an hour. Before calling Chris I had a large company send one of their electricians to evaluate the job.  The person spent one hour evaluating the job and stated that he was unsure which wire was faulty and that he needed to return after the weekend and spend more hours figuring out the problem which could cost as high as $1,000.00 for his time.  This large company charged me a service fee for the visit when they did nothing but give me bad information and sent me an incompetent electrician or a dishonest one.  Chris had no problems figuring out the problem and fixing it and charged me around $100.00.  He was competent, ethical and professional. I highly recommend him. Professionals like Chris are few and far between these days. <br />"

"Ramon is now my go-to electrician I will call if I need any electrical work done. My partner and I are first time homebuyers and the home we got desperately needed an electrical panel upgrade. I found Ramon who provided fair prices and he also helped us set up our ring cameras and ceilings lights as part of the package, which reallly helped us out! The work he and his team done is clean, professional, and fantastic. He found outdated and exposed wiring and was able to fix that for us as well, so now our home electrical is brand new and SAFE. He’s nearby and it’s great to know a professional we can call anytime we need electrical work done. "

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in North Hills, CA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
