"Brandon was the service tech who arrived promptly, was professional and pleasant. <br /> He quickly determined the problems regarding the 2 leaks. These were fixed and then after he finished the other items, he double checked them which did require additional work on one issue. He completed this work before he left. <br /> He offered advice on furnace maintance, the water heater and additionally detected noise from the water filtration system, where he recommended a remedy for. <br /> We are very pleased with the service and professionalism. <br />"

"I couldn't be happier. David came to the rescue for our seasonal cottage after the pipes froze and burst over the winter. It was a disaster. David skillfully repaired multiple pipe breaks under the floors and various bathroom fixtures that were damaged. Not only did he do great work, he's a very kind person. Patient and communicative. I wish I could hire him for all my plumbing needs! I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone"

"<blockquote> <blockquote> <blockquote> Contacted Walters & Hemming Wednesday afternoon, they were one of four different plumbers contacted included another full service plumbing & HVAC company.  I had found the outgoing old copper hot water line leaking at the top of the heater.  I was up until 4am the previous night trying to close the cold water shut-off valve that ran to the tank.  It used the old knob style but it had no knob on it.  The location abutted the chimney making it very hard to turn with two different wrenches. <br /> </blockquote> </blockquote> </blockquote> Of the four plumbers contacted, Walters & Hemming was able to schedule my repair service for the next morning on Thursday.  Considering their base rate and the need to get our hot water online again it was an obvious choice.  The scheduler said that the actual plumber would call the next day about 8:30am to let me know they were enroute plus I suggested giving that plumber directions to our back yard. <br /> Up before 8am Thursday awaiting a call from plumber - about 8:32am plumber knocked on my back door without calling first.  Apparently he was familiar with city streets and alleys plus he had not received any note about calling first.  I showed the plumbing issues as described above - I had set-up a trouble light plus a move-able spotlight around the plumbing and water heater. <br /> Everything was done with new lever style ball shut-off valves. The curving copper lines were replaced with straight sections, elbows and fittings.  The lever style ball shut off valve for the cold water was now a cinch to turn off into the hot water tank.  A cold water shut valve to the 2nd floor bathroom supply was put in the correct order before the valve to the tank. <br /> Job was completed by 11am - Everything worked fine now - hot water was back online by just after noon. <br />"

"The technician came out on time, and phoned when he was in route. He listened to my description of the problem, and proceeded to investigate the furnace and only did what was necessary to repair it. (no pressure to buy additional parts) The technician was very professional during his service call. I did have to pay a premium for a after hours service call, but that was expected."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Northport, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
