"Outstanding Experience with Roads Paving! We recently had Roads Paving install a new asphalt driveway, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The crew was professional, friendly, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Their equipment was modern and well-maintained, which showed in the smooth and high-quality finish of the driveway. The team took the time to explain each step of the process and made sure everything was completed to perfection. It’s clear they take pride in their work. Highly recommend Roads Paving to anyone looking for quality workmanship and great service!"

"The job was clearing out a 300 sq foot area of tree roots, prepping area for new driveway, and laying down new asphalt. The job with Dennis started out great. He worked very hard. When it came time to get asphalt for the driveway, the shop just had 1 variety that day. When he arrived at my house with the asphalt, he was visibly upset about the grade that they had available. He made the decision to get a grade that has rocks in it that are from .5"-1" size rocks. Definitely not a finer grade which is more acceptable for residential driveways. When he was done, he was still visibly upset about the results and even thanked me for not being irate with him. He was hiring a third party to come in and lay mastik to fill the gaps, and level the surface, then seal the entire driveway. I appreciated his hard work and believed he was taking care of the job, so I paid him since I felt he was a man of his word. I even gave him a $600+ tip. The mastik/sealing company came out the next day and only used mastik on 25% of the 300 sq feet. A few days after it was fully dry, I texted Dennis and expressed my concern that the gaps were not filled and the surface was not at all level. He agreed to have the sealing company come out again. I specifically asked Dennis if they were using mastik as another coating of seal would not fill the gaps. He ignored my question and a second layer of seal was applied. I texted Dennis after the weekend asking him to get back to me. I did not hear back from him. I texted the next day expressing my concern that the gaps were still not filled and that now, there were streaks from the second application of the driveway being sealed. I included photos and asked him to please get back to me. He said that the work was "not that bad" and he "did what was on the estimate". "If the work is unsatisfactory, then I recommend going with another company" I paid Dennis for his hard work and what I thought was his honest word about finishing my driveway. Definitely my fault for believing him at his word. Dennis was dishonest with me on many occasions. He said that mastik would be used to fill gaps and level the surface. That did not happen. When I repeatedly brought up the grade of asphalt that he chose without talking to me, he said "asphalt is aphalt" that there is no difference in grade. Dennis told me that he would come out and look at my driveway again, but he never did. Dennis claimed that he sent the company out to seal my driveway 3 times and it was twice. I know that this repair would not match my existing driveway, but asphalt that was a much more appropriate grade could have and should have been used. I will have to hire another company to rip out and redo what Dennis refused to complete as he told me. I'm sure most of the time Dennis has done great work. Unfortunately that was not my experience. I thought he was a man of his word, but his dishonesty and bad decisions have left me with an unacceptable end result."

"Since it was going to be a major purchase for me, I got 3 different bids for the job of replacing my old patio, building a ramp and rebuilding my patio stairs. Paul was so much more knowledgeable than the other 2 contractors I spoke with. He listened to my ideas and discussed what would work and what wouldn't work and why something wouldn't work. He had some great suggestions and it was obvious he knew his business. One of his suggestions was to modify my stairs to make them easier to climb by lowering the rise on each stair. (It really made a difference.) His bid wasn't the least expensive but as I observed the job being done, I realized what a terrific amount of work was involved in the project. Paul and his brother Ness, were responsive and easy to work with. They employed enough crew - sometimes a few men and sometimes up to 7 workers depending on the stage of the job. The men were efficient, polite and thorough. They had a great foreman. The guys cleaned up the area each day after the job. I always felt confident that I would be pleased with the finished patio, and I was."

"Four neighbors decided to go in and have our shared gravel driveway paved. The person who set it up instructed them keep the grade the same level. The road had plenty of gravel and no potholes. Instead, they took the easy route, brought in recycle asphalt for their leveling and put the asphalt on top. It must have raised the grade another four inches. They didn't give a single consideration about my driveway and I ended with about a 12 drop at my entrance. It blocked off the runoff along the entire length of my property, which greatly concentrated the runoff right across my driveway entrance and we about lost a chunk of asphalt in the first heavy rain. I am now facing a several thousand dollar bill to fix our drainage and it is going to cost a lot more for all the side gravel along the rest of the driveway. Did the owner give rip? No. He was too busy to even look at the mess and neither did his grader show up. So much for hiring professionals."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Oak Harbor, WA

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
