SHORT VERSION: Everyone at Avenue Roofing – Devon, Jessica, and Marc – that I interacted with was truly outstanding and highly responsive. I believe that I am very demanding and have high expectations when it comes to work like this. Avenue Roofing continually exceeded my expectation throughout the entire project. With their help and guidance, we were able to navigate all the obstacles and unique aspects of replacing the damaged roof. If it had not been for Avenue Roofing, the insurance company would have paid to have 25 shingles replaced on the house. With Avenue Roofing’s advice and recommendations, the roofs on both the house and the detached shed were completely replaced – the cost of which was paid for by the insurance policy. LONG VERSION: Background – My older sister (aka Florida-sister) owns a home in Jacksonville, FL. Due to some medical issues, she has now moved from her home to an assisted living facility. My younger sister has Power of Attorney for her, but she lives in Ohio (aka Ohio-sister). I am the “highly unpaid” technical/financial advisor for both of them, and I live in Texas. So far, so good? Situation - In early February of this year, a neighbor in Jacksonville, called my Ohio-sister and told her that he had seen some shingles on the ground around my Florida-sister’s home. Ohio-sister called me, and I started looking for a local company that could help us fix the roof. Based on my online review of roofing companies in Jacksonville, I found Avenue Roofing. Reviews on their web site were impressive, and being retired Air Force, I liked the idea that the company was veteran owned. I called Avenue Roofing and explained the situation. From that point on, I knew I was working with professionals that had our best interests at heart. Although, I thought they would just bill us for some minor roofing repair, they convinced me to file a claim with the insurance company, which we did. Insurance Company - As impressed as we are with Avenue Roofing, we have been totally disappointed in the insurance company. It took them two attempts over multiple weeks to actually get someone to inspect the roof. Avenue Roofing was there during the first appointment which the insurance inspector cancelled after the time he was supposed to be on site, and they were also present when the second inspector showed up the following week. It might be of interest to someone looking to have their roof repaired that Avenue Roofing did this at no cost and with no contract in place! The insurance inspector filed his report, and the desk adjustor for the insurance company called me about two weeks after the claim had been filed. His assessment of the repairs was to replace 25 shingles on the house and 3 shingles on the shed. He then transferred the costs of these repairs to Florida-sister’s bank account and was ready to close the claim. Avenue Roofing Comes to the Rescue - When I explained what had happened to Devon Gray, president of Avenue Roofing, he recommended that we immediately request a second inspection. I really didn’t think that it would help but following his advice (highly recommended), I made the call to the insurance company. When I asked about scheduling a second inspection, the agent asked if I had any information about the damages from Avenue Roofing because he had no report/pictures from their inspector to reference. Once again, the professionalism and thoroughness of Avenue Roofing came through – I immediately sent him a 90-page report that Avenue Roofing had assembled for the roof inspection conducted in concert with the insurance company’s inspector. Suffice it to say, the insurance company had a change of heart. With no other information than what Avenue Roofing provided in their report, the insurance company re-evaluated the claim and decided that both the house and the shed required a new roof. Go figure! You would think that this is where the saga might end --- nope, read on! Long-Distance Paperwork - It turns out that the state of Florida requires a notarized signature from the homeowner to allow a new roof to be installed on a dwelling. Well, how do you do that if the attorney of record (Ohio-sister) lives in Ohio? No worry, Avenue Roofing was able to put together a Zoom video call with a local notary and through the magic of the internet, we were able to get the necessary notarized signatures so that work could begin. Through the scheduling, preparation, installation and clean up, Avenue Roofing kept us fully informed as to the status of the job, including pictures. Project Complete – Approximately two months after reporting the missing shingles to the insurance company, we have received the final report from Avenue Roofing which includes the Paid in Full Final Invoice, the 5 Year Labor Warranty, and the GAF System Plus Manufacturer's Warranty for the shingles. With the advice and guidance that Avenue provided during this entire process, we went from getting 25 shingles replaced to having the house and shed entirely reroofed. Oh, and by the way, while Avenue Roofing was removing the old shingles, they discovered over 17 pieces of rotten wood which had to be replaced in the process -- none of which would have been detected if only 25 shingles had been replaced. "I hired Pro Roofing to completely rip off and replace asphalt shingle roof after interviewing top 10 companies sent to me by Home Advisor. For 26 square roof (2600 square feet) Pro Roofing quoted $8000 which was average price. Price estimates ranged from $5000 to $15000. I chose Pro Roofing because there was no BS. . . no promises they couldn't keep. They did not lie to me about underlayment or try and upsell "premium" shingles. Every roofing company in Florida uses the same materials. After interviewing 10 companies I could see everyone sells all the same product. Some companies will try and BS customer with lies about how their product is superior. Pro Roofing was straight with me. After visiting Pro Roofing's office in Sanford, FL I felt they seemed reliable and trustworthy. Many of the 10 companies I interviewed, when I went to their office there was no office. . . some companies the office was a home address or phantom office. Not a good sign. Pro Roofing was a real building with real workers just off of the 417 Toll Road at 17-92. Pro Roofing had a big scheduling board up in office and they were booked out a month, plus. I asked them to throw in peel & stick underlayment for the entire roof and they agreed. Most companies wanted an extra $1000 for peel & stick. Peel & stick is essential in Florida and should be used on all new roofs but it is not code required so most companies now charge extra or don't use it at all. Make your company throw in peel & stick! Get it in writing. So I was scheduled 6 weeks out June 2019. In late May 2019 Pro Roofing called and asked if they could move up new roof date. I agreed and they showed up on designated date about 7:00 am with crew of 10. Pro Roofing pretty much does roofs in one day. There are pros and cons to this process. Pro is the hassle is over and done quickly. Con. . . some things are not finished as well as they could be. In my case some of my aluminum soffit got mixed in with the old roof debris and disappeared. I will have to hire someone to replace several large sections of soffit at my own expense. I should have been paying closer attention to what they workers were doing. My fault for not being on top of that. I was on site for the entire job but I wasn't outside the entire 14+ hours that Pro Roofing was working. That is why they get 4-stars for quality. Replacing soffit is expensive. Pro Roofing quoted extra $50 per sheet of plywood and $5 linear foot for facia if any needed replaced. That added another $500 to the cost of roof for a total of $8500. Pro Roofing worked into the night cleaning up the mess. They were still working after 9:00 pm . . . it was very dark. Again, quality suffered. They should have come back the next day to clean it up and fix all the facia and soffit issues. They did not (thus 4 stars) so I cannot give them 5 stars. Roof looks good overall. No leaks. Price was right. Customer service was excellent. I am satisfied and I think I would hire them again. Next time I would make sure the soffit and facia were all replaced before the crew departed the site. Pro Roofing is mostly Spanish-speaking company. Have your Spanish app on the ready or bone up on basic Spanish before the crew arrives."

"The roof construction itself is quality work. The roofing crew arrived on the time and date specified and cleaned up after their job. My roof passed county inspection. My issue with the company is not with the roof itself, but with their warranty. The salesman advised me this company has a 15-year workmanship warranty on the roofs they install. This was a key determinant to choosing this company over its many competitors in the area. The salesman even showed me examples of competing roofing company sales contracts which indicate only a 5-year standard warranty for work done. The salesman confirmed the cost with Covenant to be higher because of this 15-year warranty. I signed a sales contract which states 12. ALL WORK COVERED BY A 5 YEAR WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY. CRC upgrade_warranty applies. The salesman confirmed that their CRC (Covenant Roofing Company) upgrade warranty was to total the roof under a 15-year warranty. He stated I would receive the warranty at the completion of the roof. I was sold. The roof was built. The final CRC inspection was completed by a project manager. I asked about the warranty paperwork. He stated I would receive the papers upon payment. I asked specifically if there were any out of pocket costs. He said he did not know, but that the paperwork would indicate such terms. At a later time, this is the warranty coverage I received: Covenant Roofing Construction, Inc. warrants to you an extended warranty of __15___ years. This warranty is transferable to one new owner. This warranty includes 5 years of unconditional workmanship. An officer of the company will need to perform a maintenance inspection of the roof starting on the 6th year and every year thereafter for the life of the warranty. There will be a fee of $150.00 per inspection for the recertification of the roof. If an inspection is missed the warranty will become void. This warranty does not cover product defects, extreme weather conditions, or acts of God. This warranty does not cover any additional cost to remove and/or reinstall any roof peripherals to complete repair. Needless to say, I was distraught over the additional costs of maintaining this warranty and the indication that it would become null and void if I was non-compliant. After several in-person and phone conversations, there was no remedy to the fact that I would need to make additional payment beyond that of the sales contract if I desired to continue my warranty coverage after 5 years. They did, however, gift me 2 separate VISA gift cards in the amount of $50 and $150 for my inconvenience. The office was pleasant and apologetic in listening to my concern, but apologies will not cover my cost after the initial limitations. I advised them not to sell customers on what they are not actually offering in their agreement and without making such knowledge available to the consumer."
