"Fabulous! The showroom service is excellent - lots of options to choose from. I was able to take good-sized samples home to see how they looked in my kitchen. The installation was amazing! I had purchased an undermount sink and was a bit worried how the corners would match up. It is perfect. The fit and finish are superb and the cost was about the same as a big box store. Totally satisfied with my experience! <br />"

"Our purple carpet had about 100 urine stains from previous dogs and our own. The specialist, Robert, matched to color and treated every spot. If we didn't know where they were, we'd never know they spots had been there. Perfect job!"

"The experience was excellent and exceeded our expectations at every phase of the project. There was no pressure at anytime to buy this particular product or that. We were provided all the pros and cons of each type of flooring and we used this information to make our choice. We were kept informed at every step of the process. The project was completed on time. <br /> <br /> The installation phase deserves special note. The quality of the install was top notch. The installer made sure all the joints were tight. the board ends were staggered, the transitions were perfect and he left the house cleaner than before he started. <br /> <br /> We have been so pleased with the installation we have decided to continue the same flooring from the dinning room through the kitchen when it is remodeled this summer. Port City Flooring will be our choice once again. <br />"

"I had two different experiences with Rye Floor Fashions.  I very much enjoyed speaking with Dante about options as well as Cheryl to stain match and product match- they both seemed very knowledgable.  However, when it came to install (Dante did not do the install), I was somewhat disappointed with the work.  I am not sure if it was the installers or the finisher (because I reused my molding) but my walls were beat up and the new floors had scratches and gouges in them.  The stain was also somewhat uneven (you can't notice with furniture in the room so it is not such a big deal).   Chico did come out and fix some of the scratches and he did a good job.  I had the floors put in this April and now that it is July, they are cupping a bit (once a gain, just slightly).  The other thing is they left cigarette butts and empty cups on my lawn- just not very professional and I have asthma so the smell of cigarette smoke bothers me. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Orrs-Island, ME

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
