"The existing roof on the house and garage was torn off, new sheet decking installed on top of old board decking of the house, new flashing, drip edge, shingles installed on house and garage. Installed new ridge vent on house. Some of the siding that needed to be removed to install flashing was damaged as can happen but was replaced with new. It was a difficult roof with multiple dormer windows and odd angles but they did a careful job and I've received many compliments on the appearance from neighbors. Good job with clean up too. The owner is easy to reach and quick to reply to all questions I had. From day I asked for quote until day completely finished was under 5 weeks. Without hesitation I'd recommend them to others. Competitively priced compared to two other bids."

Owner Tom P came out and walked through our needs with us, and helped us make decisions where we were unsure and gave us a detailed estimate within a couple days (including some great visuals that really helped my wife, who isn't a particularly visual thinker). Once we settled on the work to be done, there were three separate crews doing work at different times. All were absolutely top-notch for professionalism and quality of work. The roofing crew put in one day that was over 18 hours long to keep things on track, and had maybe the best attitude I've ever seen for such a grueling job. We couldn't be happier with the results. Every nitpick or concern we had was handled quickly and professionally. Maybe the most impressive part is that over the course of the entire job - which included completely new roofing and siding on a 3000+ s.ft. home plus a 24x30 outbuilding - there we never ONCE a 'surprise' cost change. The estimates we got were exactly what we ended up charged for, and when we asked for changes, the shift in costs was made totally clear up front. Estimating is tricky, and I know how hard it can be to predict what may come up, so this fact impressed us greatly. JDH was not the least expensive estimate we got when we were planning this work - but their reputation on both Angies List and Hardie's Elite Preferred contractor referrals convinced us they were worth the slight cost difference. In hindsight, we couldn't have been more right. In 20+ years as a homeowner, JD Hostetter stands out as clearly the best experience we've had contracting for work on our home. This was a very large job, and we'll be living with the results for 30+ years, so feeling so confident in the results is a huge plus for us. "I don't think we could have asked for a smoother project. This was the biggest home improvement project we've undertaken since building the house in 1988. Needless to say, we were nervous; however, David Wilson, owner of Apex, put our minds to rest taking time to explain the advantages of the replacement product and each step his crew would take along the way. We began our discussions with David in the Fall of 2017 and Apex was offering some incentives to fill out their work calendar. David's price was very fair (not the cheapest, but by far not the highest). His amiable personality and fair-minded spirit made the decision to go with Apex much easier. Unfortunately, the weather in late 2017 was miserable and David called to suggest that we consider doing the project in the Spring. His concern was that the siding could get completed, but he knew my wife wouldn't want just a primed house sitting all winter before the temperature would be high enough to allow for painting. A credit to David, because he gave us his honest opinion of starting a big job with weather most unpredictable while, at the same time, ensuring us that all of the 2017 incentives he offered would hold for the project, even though delayed. David's crew was simply wonderful. During the demolition phase, they were careful to see that all material made it properly to the waste container and each evening, they would organize their materials in preparation for the next day. They worked quickly and efficiently, touching base with us to share project status and process. The foreman and crew were respectful and we had no concerns, as we left the house periodically, to allow them access to our facilities. I think these simple gestures of consideration go a long way. In the end, the project completed in short order, was installed exactly as promised and there were no change orders. The cost of the project was approximately $30,000 and the amount I paid David was exactly as he proposed. Both my wife and I find ourselves amazed that for our first major project on our home of 29 years, it came off without a hitch and that is certainly credit to David and his entire Apex Design Build team!"
