"We've been wanting to replace our poorly built, aging deck on our home for three years now. We called out 3 construction companies over the past couple of years to get an idea about replacing the deck and also the possibility of adding a screen porch onto our home. Each one of those companies either told us that a screen porch wouldn't work well on the home, or involved a lot of costly renovations to make it work (take out a window, add a french door, etc.) Then, I was able to find Jeff and his crew with DeckWorks. Jeff came out and told me that not only was it possible to have a screen porch, but they could rebuild the open porch and make it work with the architecture of my home very easily. Jeff was extremely honest with me during that process, and I was quite surprised by the price that he was able to quote me (especially with how high I was quoted by those construction companies). He certainly won us over, and quickly scheduled a time to start working. Another thing that I liked about Jeff was the fact that he did not collect any deposit from me. He informed me that he wanted to make sure I was happy with what was built before any money was collected from me. His crew showed up to work promptly between 6:20 and 6:30am every morning. Since Jeff, Joseph, and the rest of the crew only build decks, they certainly have the process down pat. Before I knew it, in just a couple of days, things were coming together. We did run into a few snags, but Jeff and Joseph were constantly calling me during my workdays to inform me of what was going on, the building process, and options to consider. I was very impressed by the craftsmanship that the guys used to build the deck. You can tell that they really take pride in what they do. Top-grade materials were also used, and I really appreciated Joseph telling me how everything was built and how they try to go above and beyond when building a deck, especially in terms of safety and having a deck that's structurally sound. What impressed me the most with Jeff and his crew was their professionalism and courtesy from the top down. Jeff never did mind me calling to ask a dumb question, nor did the crew on site. If you are ever considering building a new deck or replacing a deck in the Birmingham metro, I would HIGHLY consider calling Jeff and his crew first. You will not be disappointed!! I was actually kinda bummed out when the project was finished, because I wouldn't be able to interact with Jeff and his crew any longer. The whole process was actually quite enjoyable and exciting, especially knowing how much our family will enjoy the finished product for years to come. Thanks to Jeff, Joseph, and crew!!"

"We had gotten 3 estimates to have our old wooden deck torn down and a new composite deck built. We were impressed with Brian Snider's suggestions as to the new layout, his knowledge and expertise and his price. He answered the many questions we had, unlike another builder who was eager to book the job but refused to answer my questions as to why his quote was double Deckbuilder"s quote. The workers were consistently prompt, courteous and professional. They tore down the old deck quickly and hauled away all debris. Once they began work for the day they worked til the task at hand was completed. There was good communication with the workers and Brian throughout the process. I initially wanted stadium steps as we had them with the previous deck. Brian suggested ways we could improve our space and I'm so glad we took his advice. Our deck is 16 x 20 and has the look and feel we were hoping for. The quality of the work done is excellent and the finished product far exceeded our expectations. We absolutely love our new deck and highly recommend Deckbuilders."

"Excellent! Joel exceeded my expectations. I’m often told that I’m hard to please! I spent several weeks sanding, scrapping and removing several layers of heavy paint from the deck. Removed the railings and steps as well. Found Joel on Angie’s list and set time for him to look at what I needed to rebuild. The only part left from the prior deck was the deck floor boards sitting on raised 6x6 posts. Joel arrived on the scheduled day with himself, his additional skilled worker. They went at it immediately until they had a quick lunch and went right back to work again. The entire project was finished in 1 day."

"It has gone very smoothly, I worked with Alfred Pickett, (205) 837-1011, who quoted the job, scheduled the job with one of Authentic Restoration's roofing crews. It is Alfred who stood fast that our roof was damaged and likely that our insurance adjuster would approve coverage payments. This occurred on an incredible day when I coincidentally paid a home inspector to inspect a small area on my roof that another "sub" of mine had patched. Alfred was standing nearby and we didn't say a word that Alfred was a roofer. I asked the Home Inspector to check our roof while he was up there - and he came down and told me the roof was not damaged by hail! When the inspector left, Alfred showed me on his "Tablet" the picture he took of our roof and there were many pale charcoal-colored spots in the picture. This was the hail damage we suspected that occurred in April 2017. Our terrific Cincinnati Insurance Co. paid all of our $40,638 roofing/new gutters bill except a $2,500 deductible that we happily paid. Authentic Restoration performed a great job on our home's roof and (don't forget) gutters. I am so big on Restoration that we got my youngest Stepson's home re-roofed due to hail damage also, and happily this home was covered by Cincinnati Insurance also (hail damage). In addition, I've led, so far, two of my neighbors who own luxury homes with hail-damaged roofs to Alfred and they are getting new replacement roofs covered by insurance. Alfred has also made things easy in doing our two jobs and I am very fortunate that we crossed paths because he has saved my wife and I some serious money and made it easy!!"

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Pinson, AL

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
