"As a Realtor, Schan has done many of my clients' radon system install and they all were extremely please with his knowledge, install and his going above and beyond to make the system appealing from the exterior of the home. Many companies will not make the effort to ensure that the system does not look unsightly. Schan does and he is an expert at what he does. I would only recommend Schan to my clients!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We were very happy with the crew who worked in our home. Very professional. Prepared the site so we could not tell they had even been in our home. Testing following the job indicated that the radon gas was leaving our home. Our radon level went from 12 to 0."

"VSI is the real deal. After testing my house & finding levels too high, I started searching for mitigation (Angie, HomeAdvisor, Yelp, etc.). VSI was on every list, their website is extremely informative, and the founder (Mr. Volsted) even created courses @ U of Chicago about radon – some reputation! Then my personal trainer showed me a picture of her radon mitigation system and there was the VSI sticker. So I called, Kevin answered quickly, and after several questions he gave me a quote over the phone & sent emailed it within the hour. A week later Guy and his crew came and did an exceptional job installing the system. Very professional work – respectful of property, wore booties inside, vacuum attachment on concrete drills so minimal dust, and cleaned up everywhere. Great color match on outside piping. Guy even did a smoke test w/ pilot holes to demonstrate the suction beneath the basement floor. Guy gave detailed explanations & answered all my questions. I have a continuous monitoring system and even within a few hours radon levels have already dropped significantly. Very satisfied, highly recommended!"

"Working with BRT on our home inspection and radon test was incredibly easy and very competitively priced. Dave was very easy to get a hold of and was able to schedule us quickly. He is very knowledgeable about homes and construction in general. He not only showed me certain issues with the house but also explained which items I could fix myself and where to buy the parts. He differentiated the items that couldn't be "DIY-ed" and offered to provide (didn't push) contacts for these items. The best value with BRT is the fact that they can couple a radon test with their home inspection. Most home inspectors sub-contract their radon tests with different companies. This not only adds time to your inspection (cutting into your inspection review period) but also costs a lot more money (I quoted 5 different home inspectors and BRT was the most competitive). To top it all off, Dave is a personable guy who is very easy to get along with and has plenty of experiences to share. I would highly recommend Dave and BRT to anyone getting a home inspection (especially if you're getting a radon test too)."

"I received my radon results in a timely manner. I did not hire them specifically, (so, I cannot say I would hire them again) the local company contracted them for this service. The home inspector I hired, handled this service for me and included the results in his report."

"We had our home tested for Radon when we moved in last August. We were below the action level, so we didn't not have to have a system installed when we closed. However, we have a playroom in our basement, so we decided to have an active system installed. The technician arrived promptly at the scheduled time & thoroughly explained the process. He always put on booties when he came into our home. I was very impressed by his knowledge, customer service & cleanliness. He even offered to set up a post test for us. My husband and I were very pleased with the services provided & we will definitely be using Trinity again for future projects! <br>"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Plano, IL

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
