"Our composite deck was showing its age (18 years) and in need of rejuvenation. "The Dexpert" crew was courteous and professional. Joshua and Jordan just completed the surface refinishing and staining of the wooden rails. The deck looks like new and the price was most reasonable. We couldn't be more pleased."

"We have a 582 sq ft Western cedar deck, approximately nine years old. Heavily shaded. Four years after the initial application of stain, I prepped the deck with a deck stripper and brightener, using a pressure washer and deck brush, then used a hand pump sprayer to apply two coats of stain. I had purchased a trade product, TWP semi-transparent oil-based cedar tone total wood preservative/stain/sealer. The entire process took four days and 4 gallons of stain. The appearance was satisfactory at the time, but I was not happy at the the amount of time and effort required to complete the job.
Five years later, the deck is now nine years old and badly in need of refinishing. This time I consulted Angie's List and contacted John Winters at U Buy I Apply Staining. He arrived at our home the same day to provide an estimate. On the minute. Upon examining the deck, he said the job would consist of hand sanding the deck with an electric palm sander, then application of the stain with a brush. His plan of action was to sand the deck and apply one coat of stain, returning the following day to apply the second coat.
However, I had already purchased a new supply of the same product I had used five years earlier, and insisted on using it rather than a product from a paint store or home improvement store. John was unfamiliar with this product, but agreed to use it. A key difference in the TWP product is the requirement that it be applied "wet on wet", that is, do not allow the first coat to dry before applying the second coat. He contacted the manufacturer directly and discussed the application with a TWP product specialist to confirm the wet on wet procedure.
I was skeptical at his contention that there was no need to prepare the deck beforehand, so the day before his appointment, I proceeded to pressure wash and scrub the deck in preparation for sanding. After doing 1/2 the deck I recognized I was wasting my time and resolved to let John do it his way, and then comparing the finished product on the surface I had pressure washed vs the remainder.
On the appointed day, John was running late but kept me informed and ensured I was not being inconvenienced. He finally arrived within five minutes of his latest estimated arrival time, 9:30am. He had one assistant with him. He immediately pronounced my effort at prepping the deck had been unnecessary, then proceeded to sand the deck. When the entire deck had been sanded, I could see he was correct. The entire deck presented a like-new surface, ready to accept the stain. The stain application was uneventful other than the fact that the wood was clearly thirsty, rapidly absorbing the stain within minutes. Employing the wet on wet procedure, John and his assistant actually completed the entire deck the same day, sanding, then applying both coats of stain and then cleaning up, all done by 8pm. Using the brushes, they ensured full, penetrating coverage, no pools of stain, and they used less than 3 gallons of the five gallon can of stain.
The following day, and the day after that, have revealed a deck surface that looks and feels better than when the deck was brand new. A third finishing coat (my option) will be applied following renovation of the swimming pool later this summer.
I am completely satisfied with the job done by John Winters and his assistant, Armando. They were clean, friendly and courteous. They were professional. It's evident that he enjoys this work and takes pride in the results. I recommend him without reservation and look forward to his visit to apply the third coat."

"Jared was our technician and did an outstanding job. Our salt water pool had been breaking down the flagstone to a fine sand that would settle to the sun shelf and pool steps. With brushing it would ultimately end up in the pool D.E. Filter which required it to be cleaned more frequently. Since we had Texas Stone Sealers apply their proprietary sealant, the fine sand no longer shows up and the flagstone looks far more attractive than it did before. We went for the darker, richer look (but not the wet look) and have been very pleased. It has been three years since our initial application and the salt water pool protection is still working great. We opted to take advantage of their “once in the first five years” warranty reapplication for a nominal fee to restore the rich, darker look we had originally. Jared has also been our technician for the reapplication. He has been very thorough and when we had a small area that needed a fix he was responsive in fitting us into his busy schedule and our large deck once again looks awesome! One comment for those with flagstone or other natural rock issues with a salt water pool. Much of the material I read suggested that unless the rock was sealed at the start, the problem with fine disintegration of the flagstone into a sand would be very difficult to stop. I can’t speak for all materials, but the Texas Stone Sealers product did successfully stop the problems we had been having even though it was not applied until almost ten years after the pool and deck were installed."

"Working with JR was a simple, no nonsense and professional experience from start to finish. We wanted some kind of shade for our uncovered patio. JR came over, listened to what we were looking for, and came up with some options and a plan. JR‘s quote was right in line with, or less expensive than other quotes we had received. We ended up going with an approximately 30x12 cedar arbor. Once we settled on a day to get the arbor installed, JR and his crew came over on the scheduled day, and was on time. He and his crew were very professional and friendly, and they were very efficient. What I thought would be a multi day job was completed in one day. As for the results, the arbor is beautiful. It really does provide significant shade. It is as if we have a covered patio, but with the benefit of having air circulate more freely. We love our arbor and highly recommend JR for any arbor, deck, or other wood work job. He does excellent, professional work at a fair price."

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Pleasanton, TX

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
