"Very prompt to respond, show up, submit quote and finish job. They also installed a new water heater. Very friendly and professional. Saved us money by using existing switches! Wonderful to work with and would definitely hire again and tell neighbors and friends to."

The Jensen family’s history in electrical work spans three generations. It began with Kyle’s grandfather, who spent 47 years as a maintenance electrician with Mountain Bell. That dedication to craftsmanship continued with Kyle’s father, a well-respected electrical contractor in Southern Utah. Following in their footsteps, Kyle entered the trade early—starting as an apprentice at 16, earning his Journeyman license in 2002, and achieving his Master Electrician license in 2006. With that deeply rooted family foundation, he brings decades of hands-on knowledge to every project.\n\n

"I called several companies before listing work to be done. Wire one contacted me. Next day, the service person come to my house (as requested). He looked at the problem then suggested options for repair. I appreciated having a choice with no pressure. I would consider working with this company for other "home needs"."

"I was very happy with the work, and the people were knowledgeable and friendly! My only suggestion is to give written information on different packages and prices, to enable customers to make a more informed decision. I had a generator installed, and had my electrical service upgraded."

"We had five circuits added for our basement. Bryant was professional and easy to work with. He arrived on time and cleaned up after he was done. The price we were quoted is what we paid, and it was less than other quotes we got. We are pleased with his work and would recommend him for any electrical needs. We will definitely use him in the future. "

"Dan is one of the few that will fix an LG brand washing machine. After diagnosing the problem, Dan showed me how much the part would be and labor. Once I agreed to the work to be done, he ordered the needed part right then. Parts are paid up front. Final payment due when work is completed. The part arrived within a few days and he was back immediately to repair my washer. My washer has been working beautifully ever since."

"I had called about five plumbers and couldn't get same day service. Jason called me back within 20 minutes of my initial phone call and was able to squeeze me in (to be fair, it might not always be possible for him to do this, and had I lived somewhere else or needed something more extensive done, like a water heater replacement, it probably wouldn't have worked since he was fully scheduled). But in my case he was already going from a job from West Des Moines to Johnston, and I live along the route, to he graciously offered to swing by on his way and see if it could be quickly fixed. It turned out to be just a bad thermo-couple on the heater, something common that he keeps a supply of in his truck (at least for the common water heater brands like mine). He quickly took the old one out and put a new one in, and I was up and running with hot water again! He was friendly and I thought the price was reasonable for short notice same day service. Also, he didn't try to upsell me on anything either. He told me flat out that he tries to repair first if he can. But he was also honest with me up front and said that if it turned out to be anything other than a thermo-couple, given the age of the unit it would be best to go ahead and replace, because most other component repair jobs end up costing quite a bit more. But in my case it was just the thermo-couple, and he told me that he warranties his repair work for 30 days, and that if for some reason this doesn't fix my issue (it did) and it turns out to be something else within 30 days, he'll make it right and credit the repair charge towards the charge of the replacement job, which I thought was very reasonable. I've not had to make use of that offer though because things are working fine."

"We had hired Jeremy a couple years ago for a bathroom shower repair so did not hesitate again to contact him when we had a leaking pipe under our kitchen sink and leaky faucet above. He and his wife provided lots of useful information and suggested getting the needed parts under warranty for the faucet instead of the additional cost of replacing it. He does what's best for the customer and didn't just automatically suggest the most expensive thing like replacing the faucet. In the end, we went ahead with a replacement because the faucet was out of warranty so for the investment it made sense to replace. He suggested a brand for us that would have a lifetime warranty and explained the quality of their products. Again, to me, this shows his concern, honesty and integrity regarding his work and customer's best interest. With our kitchen setup containing a corner sink placement in addition to the original builder or prior DIY work of the disposal and pipe location and setup, the repair of the leaky pipe under the sink was not the most convenient and comfortable work for him. He still took the needed time and did the job thoroughly and completely making sure to explain what he was going to do and what had happened to cause the leak in the pipe in the first place. He found a 2nd leaky pipe just behind the wall when testing the first part of the job and fixed that as well. He and his assistant were very thorough, conscientious, pleasant and cleaned up tremendously when they were done. I highly recommend The Handy Guy."

"We found Farm and Home at the KC Home show. We needed siding and windows. John came out and gave us a quote for both. We had interviewed 3 other companies and found they didn't know as much or were mush higher priced. John had extensive knowledge and answered all our questions. They installed the siding first and the windows were installed a couple of weeks later. The installation teams did a great job. They were respectful and cleaned everything up each night. I called John a couple of times with questions and he called me right back the same day. The installer found an issue with something under the old siding, and went to the hardware store, got what he needed, and repaired it. No additional charge to us. I had a question about the hole plugs in the windows so I called the main number and the call was answered right away and resolved. This has been a great experience start to finish. Thank you to John and his team!"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Pleasantville, IA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
