"Indoor Environmental was thorough, responsive and on time. Jake Turner handled our situation reviewing the problem, carefully evaluating the steps necessary and how they would test to make sure the mold was successfully removed. We have worked with a lot of contractors for work on our house and no one has been better at delivering what they say they will. Our home has been tested and is now clear. Jake Turner was a pleasure to work with and always on top of things during this process."

"Our experience with Titan Lead Testing was fantastic. Dave returned my phone call promptly and was able to schedule an inspection for the next day, which was great. He showed up on time and was very personable. He did an incredibly thorough job both in testing our home and in communicating how to interpret the results. This is not our first experience with the lead abatement process, as we went through it for our apartment previously, and even so his guidance was very helpful. When it turned out we did have some lead abatement to do, he provided some leads on companies to get in touch with for removal and also collected dust samples to give us a sense of what we were dealing with. 110% recommend. <br />"

"This is the third time I have hired Peter Larkin, and he did not disappoint! Just before leaving on a vacation of several weeks to the West, my tenant informed me that she is 20 weeks pregnant. I was certain that the 1900s 2 BR 1 BA condo we were renting to the couple had lead in it, so I obtained a lead inspection from ASAP Environmental (also excellent) and found that there was a small amount of lead in the kitchen windowsill and 2 doorjambs that needed removal. In the building common areas, there was also a small amount of lead in the basement doorjamb and wainscoting touch-up needed in the stairwell. Despite recently having experienced a death in his family, Peter was able to get our job completely done (lead paint removal and repainting), re-inspected, and in full compliance prior to my tenant's return. The job passed on the first reinspection, and the crew left everything neat and tidy. I am so grateful for his reasonable pricing and his professionalism."

"Alpine Environmental did an amazing job.  They took samples of our unique interior trim, took them back to their shop, and cut new lumber so everything looks the same as when it was built and exactly matches and lines up with the original pieces which were left in place.  Also, our house has few, if any, 90-degree angles, so the foreman personally cut and installed the chair rail in several rooms.  Everything came out perfectly. <br /> One regret:  We decided not to hire the painting company Alpine recommended.  We instead hired a company that had given us a significantly lower estimate.  They did an okay job, but they didn't always show up on the days they said they would, they took much longer to complete and---because they "ran into unexpected issues,"---they ended up costing a little more than the guaranteed estimate from Alpine's people, who were very experienced with repainting homes after the de-leading process. <br /> I have repeatedly recommended Alpine.  I have heard they also do non-lead-related home improvement projects.  I would hire Alpine again in a heartbeat. <br />"

"Northeast Remediation performed deleading on my home, involving replacement of windows and the garage door. The house passed re-inspection for full compliance as soon as they were finished. The only issue was that they had problems getting one of their suppliers to provide a custom sized replacement garage door in a timely manner. This delayed fully completing the job by about a month while they found a different supplier. However, they were generally very responsive with communication and the work quality was good so I would not hesitate to use them again."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Plymouth, MA

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
