"While unclogging the drain, the technician noted there was a steady leak in the same drain. He mentioned he wasn’t able to fix this and left me with a leaking drain. Also mentioned several times that the slow drain was due to my having 1 1/4 inch drains (common in sinks) instead of the standard 1 1/2 for tubs. I am handy enough to be able to replace the leaks, and the old drains were in fact 1 1/2 inches. Most likely the slow drain is due to the drum trap, not the size of the pipes. Kept overall rating to a B because he was able to clear my drain and VERY quickly, which is what I hired them for."

"<p>McDonough's Services returned my call the same day I called them, and scheduled cleaning the pipe(s) the following day. I received another call the next day confirming someone would be out, and the technician called shortly after that to let me know he would be arriving within an hour, which he did. Chad was personable, and started the job right away.  He cleaned the pipes--to make sure they were clear--but he thought the major problem was the old cap he found lodged inside the pipe; this lodged cap prevented the water from draining properly and so the water backed up from our drain into our laundry room.  Chad said the cap was difficult to get out.  We are very grateful he found it as our laundry room flooding situation has been going on for a long time.  We were very pleased with McDonough?s Services, and would definitely hire them again.</p> <br />"

"The service technician (Derek) was great. He was prompt and did the job quickly. He seemed comfortable with me watching over his shoulder, and was courteous and pleasant in answering the questions I had. Only two comments - price is high ($319) although they do guarantee their work; they will come back if clogs reappear within six months of the original work. There was some confusion about when they would come out, although I certainly don't fault the technician for that. Originally the window was 6-10pm, then it was "within the hour", then it was "we're behind and will send someone to you within the next hour or two." The dispatcher kept me posted, calling me every 30 minutes, even when he could only say it would be a little longer. (Very impressed with that.) And the tech did show up when the dispatcher said he would. Tech gave me instructions on how to avoid/prevent clogs in the future. He sold me a large jug of green-friendly drain cleanser for maintaining the health of my pipes. Warning - the jug cost $60. I didn't take the time to research other products, I just wanted to be done with the job. All in all, very satisfied with the job."

"My water heater was making some noise so I called them to come out and look at it and clean/fix or replace if necessary. The cost was $240 and I debated whether to get a new standard 40 gallon gas water heater for the $1,000 they quoted me but I did not."

"You should consider Lindman Plumbing if you want a plumber who knows his stuff and who won't take advantage of you with a "high-ball" quote at your home after you've already committed to a $70-80 "flat trip fee"  payable whether or not you have them do the work.  <br /> From start to finish, it was a pleasure to work with Gary Lindman, who has been doing this work since 1960.  Unlike many plumbing companies, he will give a rough estimate over the phone and he will be honest about his hourly rate.  He also does not charge a "flat trip fee" to be added to the bill.  I wanted to buy the faucet myself, and Gary gave me good advice on choosing the faucet (e.g. Moen, Delta, Kohler, American Standard are all good, but don't buy a "cheap one"). <br /> When Gary and his assistant came to do the work, they could clearly see why the old faucet was loose.  The counter top had not been installed correctly by a past contractor, and quite a bit of wood material underneath the counter needed to be "drilled out" and removed in order for the new faucet to be attached (seated) solidly.   He also needed some connection line "extenders," and he had all of the misc material he needed in a large van/truck that he takes to all of his jobs.  <br /> He completed the work in an outstanding manner in less than 2 hours, and the bill was almost exactly what he estimated.  <br /> In summary, I could not have been more pleased with Lindman Plumbing.  Gary Lindman was clearly skilled, responsive, very professional, reasonably-priced, and honest every step of the way.   I highly recommend him based upon my experience.  <br />"

FAQs for drain clog or blockage clearing projects in Plymouth, MN

Snaking a simple clog near a tub, toilet, or sink often takes about five minutes. Deeper blockages along the main line can stretch the job to a few hours because the pro must feed extra cable and may need a camera to confirm the pipe is clear. Either way, specialized tools help pros work quickly and keep your drains running for the long haul.

Aggressive snaking can scratch pipes, push debris deeper, or even crack older lines. That risk is low with an experienced plumber who matches the cable size to the pipe and eases the snake through bends instead of forcing it. If you’re unsure of your technique—or your pipes are already fragile—calling a licensed pro is the safest, and often cheapest, move.

Start with simple barriers: mesh screens on every tub, shower, and sink keep hair, food bits, and jewelry out of the pipes. Skip harsh chemicals; a monthly flush with hot (not boiling) water clears light buildup without damaging plastic lines. Finally, practice smart disposal—no grease, wipes, or kitty litter down the drain—and schedule routine cleanings if you have older plumbing.

Roto‑Rooter typically charges a flat $160 to $450 for standard snaking, which may include a quick sewer inspection and basic clean‑out. Exact pricing depends on the clog’s location and complexity. Repairs or part replacements fall outside that flat fee, so ask for a line‑item estimate if your tech spots broken pipe sections or recommends additional work.

Most liquid cleaners rely on caustic chemicals that eat through hair and grime—but they also erode metal and even some plastics over time. Repeated use strips protective pipe coatings and can leave you with leaks or premature failures. If hot water or a plunger doesn’t help, call a plumber for mechanical removal instead of pouring more chemicals down the line.
