"A roofing tech was able to come out within a day of my call. He determined that water was seeping under flashing at the upper end of the skylight that had been installed incorrectly 15 years ago (over the roofing shingles rather than under and then caulked at the edges). The caulk had dried out: thus the leak. That confirmed what I thought when I went up and looked at it prior to his arrival. He recaulked, but said the only way to prevent a future leak was to replace the skylight flashing. And of course, the other three skylights were done the same way. The service call was $350 and he gave me an approximate $2000 estimate to reinstall the flashing on all four. That included replacing the roofing material around each one that would be damaged when tearing out the old flashing. While that seemed like a lot of money, given the positive reviews for the company I decided to go ahead, though I'd need to wait several weeks due to a backlog of work from two windstorms last year that did major roof damage in the area. When it was finally scheduled, it took two guys the entire day and into the night to complete the work (actually longer than they'd anticipated). They were up there in the dark with headlamps because rain was predicted the following day and they wanted to get it done. They did a nice job, matched the shingles really well, and were responsive a couple of weeks later when I asked about what appeared to be a crack in the glass on one of the skylights (it wasn't)."
