"Bill Taylor, the President of the company, carefully surveyed the condition of the roof. His detailed, clear estimate addressed all of my concerns. The crew assigned to the project was efficient and courteous. The company is GAF certified, ensuring the warranty will be honored. I highly recommend Four Seasons Roofing."

"Installation Date: Late August 2022 The roof installation and gutters were installed and look great. I DO NOT like what they did with the flashing on my chimney. It looked cheap, put together in haste, and with really bad and cheap materials. I had to call and argue with a representative to explain to him that the job they did on the chimney was horrible and that it had to be corrected. He tried to convince me it was the way it's done. I then showed him my neighbors house who had their roof done by another company. Power Home charges a premium and it didn't seem like they were very invested in the job they were doing. Additionally, the trash bin that was delivered was way to small and all the trash didn't fit. As a consequence, they left trash in front on my house and on my property for weeks after. I had to call a second time and resort to begging to get them to come by to pick up the trash. Overall, I feel like they didn't respect the job they were doing, the final touches were horrible, and they didn't treat my home with love or respect (as if it were their own home). Also, there is now a huge gap between the siding and the new roofing material. I fee they should have found and budgeted for a solution for that issue in the form of a bit of siding or flashing to minimize that gap. Now water and critters will get in through that gap. Overall, if I could do it again, I would defiantly NOT chose Power Home Remodeling. I DO NOT recommend them."

"I highly recommend Good to Go!! We did a major home renovation this summer. We completely remodeled our kitchen, put in hardwood floors throughout the first floor, re-faced a fireplace, and painted every room. We knew Good to Go was the right company for us as soon as we met Paul. Paul called the day after I requested a quote and he was punctual every time he met with us. He was very easy to work with, very knowledgeable, and gave us great suggestions and ideas. The price he was quoted was in the middle of other quotes we had received, but we had no doubt he was the person we wanted to work with. Good to Go is a family business and we loved everyone involved with the company. They are all great people who we felt very comfortable having in our home. They did incredible work and we couldn't be happier. They cleaned up everyday when the day was over and they let you know what their plan for the week was. Our water heated started leaking and needed to be replaced while the project was going on and they had a plumber at the house right away for us. We even worked with Paul's son Clark, who is a carpenter, on a custom TV stand. Clark is truly an artist! Paul made sure that everything done in the house was exactly what we wanted and goes the extra mile to make sure everything is done right. Josh was also great to work with and really did an outstanding job in making sure that we were totally satisfied. Doing a home renovation can be stressful and overwhelming, but Good to Go really made it a very pleasant experience. We were happy when the job was completed, but we miss seeing the guys everyday. I cannot say enough good things about Good to Go and they will be the only one we call for future projects!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Port Jefferson, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
