"Water started leaking from a bedroom ceiling… Even though the leak was probably coming from the chimney flashing, I knew the roof was old enough for replacement. Based on their stellar reviews and clean record with consumer affairs, I called Four Seasons to make an appointment and get an estimate for repair or replacement. Although it was Dec. 31, Bill showed up on time, something I have found lacking with other construction people over the years. He was cordial and knowledgeable, and not aggressively pushy. I felt comfortable. Having done my own research, I found his price to be reasonable, not the cheapest or the most expensive. My main interest was workmanship quality and over the years have found cheapest is not usually the best, nor is most expensive. His crew arrived within 10 days, and on time. Their work was one of the most professional I have ever seen. In fact, when they were finished, my property was cleaner than when they started. After they left, you wouldn’t even know they were there. The leak is repaired and the new roof is beautiful. I highly recommend them."

"My modeling consultant walked me through every stage of my window installation project. Alex answered all my questions and concerns which put me at ease. Very thankful that a quality assurance manager was on site during the installation to get my feedback and ensure the project was completed properly and promptly. Overall, very good experience with the company. I would definitely recommend them for home remodeling projects."

"Within 30minutes of my call, a team of plumbers arrived. Repair to the pipes and demolition accomplished that day. (Note that Paul arranged this on his cell phone from New York City, at a time when there were frozen pipes all over the island and no plumbers available. Paul made sure he was on hand when the insurance adjuster arrived a few days later, and provided all documentation for our claim. Once the claim was settled, Paul's crew sheet rocked and painted, leaving the place better than they found it. At the same time, Paul recommended some modifications to our plumbing that would protect us from pipes freezing in the future.
Additionally, we worked out a punch list of handy-man tasks that his crew accomplished while they were here; rehanging doors and repairing sheetrock damage.
We have done other projects with Paul. You are welcome to come see the deck he built for us.
We feel that his prices are fair and billing is fully transparent.

"Joe came to give me an estimate at my house in October. He was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time educating me on the whole process and roofing in General.. VERY PATIENT and makes you feel very comfortable. He wanted to ensure that I fully understood the process and trusted that I would make an intelligent decision. I chose Rapid Restore and everything went exactly as planned and scheduled. You can tell they care about quality just by watching them install. Thanks a lot guys, me and my wife would definitely recommend!"

"It didn't go very well. The gentleman came and looked at the roof. He said that he would send us a summary of what he found but we never received it. He just looked at the roof, he never did any work. He was on time. I am less likely to use them again. He didn't really do any work, he just looked at the roof for 10/15 minutes."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Port Jefferson, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
