"I can’t recommend Stars and Stripes highly enough for anyone considering a home renovation. From big projects like installing new countertops and a backsplash to smaller details like fixing the track on my sliding closet doors, everything was completed with exceptional care and attention to detail. What really sets them apart, though, is the trust factor. I’m not someone who’s usually comfortable leaving people alone in my home—but with Stars and Stripes, I never once had to worry. They were respectful, reliable, and I always felt my home was in good hands. It's rare to find that kind of peace of mind with contractors, and it's what will keep me coming back for future projects."

"Huge thank you to Mario and his team for our new roof! After several disappointing experiences with home improvement projects, it was a huge relief to work with a company that delivered exactly what was promised— integrity and professionalism. Mario took the time to sit down with us beforehand and clearly explain the job, which we really appreciated. True to his word, he worked alongside his crew throughout the project and ensured everything ran smoothly. The job started and finished on schedule and was completed with pride and attention to detail. It was so refreshing to see a team that truly cares about getting every aspect of the job done thoroughly and correctly. We will be absolutely reaching out to Best Job Construction Corp. again for future improvements!"

"Installation Date: Late August 2022 The roof installation and gutters were installed and look great. I DO NOT like what they did with the flashing on my chimney. It looked cheap, put together in haste, and with really bad and cheap materials. I had to call and argue with a representative to explain to him that the job they did on the chimney was horrible and that it had to be corrected. He tried to convince me it was the way it's done. I then showed him my neighbors house who had their roof done by another company. Power Home charges a premium and it didn't seem like they were very invested in the job they were doing. Additionally, the trash bin that was delivered was way to small and all the trash didn't fit. As a consequence, they left trash in front on my house and on my property for weeks after. I had to call a second time and resort to begging to get them to come by to pick up the trash. Overall, I feel like they didn't respect the job they were doing, the final touches were horrible, and they didn't treat my home with love or respect (as if it were their own home). Also, there is now a huge gap between the siding and the new roofing material. I fee they should have found and budgeted for a solution for that issue in the form of a bit of siding or flashing to minimize that gap. Now water and critters will get in through that gap. Overall, if I could do it again, I would defiantly NOT chose Power Home Remodeling. I DO NOT recommend them."

"Prompt & professional was Dominick (owner), George (foreman) and the entire roofing crew, from the beginning of work to the end. The attention to detail that D & S Roofing provided was an absolute, and worthy, "10" on a scale of 1 to 10. Every question we had throughout the 2-day operation was addressed immediately. All high-quality material was used on the roof (and gutters), including fantastic installation equipment. A comprehensive cleanup was also performed after the first day, as well as after the second day by several crew members. One last note, Kate (in the office) was a pleasure to communicate with from my initial-contact phone call, and throughout the whole process. Thank you (again) D & S Roofing for doing a great job, and putting a big smile back on my face! God bless!!!"

"The experience of working with Tom was consistent with our initial window project! He explained our options and suggestions for the best door according to our budget! Door arrived in the time he had stated!Installer came as scheduled and work was done efficiently and neatly! Experienced a problem with caulking but Tom didn’t hesitate to make it right! The second go round was as equally a good experience as our window installation! Couldn’t be happier!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Port Washington, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
