"Jose is a very personable and talented landscaper. He responded immediately to my request for a quote and provided it the same day. Our yard was a mess as expected after replacing a septic drain field, so it needed topsoil, grading to restore water flow in the proper direction, and a new lawn. Jose and his team have obviously done this before and expertly restored our yard to it's original condition in about a day and a half. The 5,000 sq ft of sod installed blends in perfectly with the rest of the lawn and the 5,000+ sq ft seeded area is filling in great. Jose loves his work, does it extremely well, and truly enjoys helping people. I would recommend him to anyone and only regret that I didn't find him sooner."

"Daniel and his partner installed new appliances and tile in my kitchen, I had new counter tops installed as well in my kitchen and master bathroom. I also used John Krause for a repair to my shed from water damage again Daniel and his partner did an excellent job for me. Very please with Daniel and his work. I believe Daniel is a sub-contractor for John Krause, but none the less in my opinion he did really good work and communicated with every step of the way."

"The experience and work was AMAZING!!!!!!!! Donald was extremely professional from my initial contact with him all the way to job completion. I found Donald on Angie's List and contacted him via cell phone. He was in the area of my house and within 1 hour he was standing in my backyard talking through everything with me on the phone. I never met Donald until he showed up to the job but was confident with a 10 minute discussion that he knew exactly what I wanted done. I was RIGHT!!!! He quoted me $1000 for the work and I didn't even mess with contacting others to get competitive bids. All I needed was to see past customers' comments on Angie's List and talk to him on the phone. Donald told me to contact him one week out from when I needed the work done. I did so and he confirmed the date/time the work would be completed. I am having a new deck and fence installed so Donald needed to complete the tree removal and stump grinding after the old deck/fence was removed but before the new deck/fence was built. Donald was able to execute perfectly. Donald and crew showed up at 0900 just as he informed me they would. When Donald and I spoke on the phone he told me that he would need about 30 minutes to get the trees down and I told him he was crazy. In less than 20 minutes he and his crew had my 2 35+ foot trees turned into mulch in the back of his truck. It was RIDICULOUS to watch!!!!! They removed the trees in what seemed to be a choreographed dance. The trees were suspended by ropes and lowered to the ground as if they were twigs. These trees were dropped between my townhouse and my neighbor?s townhouse about 20 feet from each structure. Oh yea and there were existing plants/shrubs and an electrical box they easily steered the falling trees around. My neighbor and I stood in the street and watched with our mouths wide open in shock. Next came the stump grinding?. Donald backed his van, with trailer, up to a flagstone retaining wall ensuring not to damage the stones. He dropped the trailer gate and with what looked like a video game controller drove an alien looking machine into my backyard. It literally looked like something you would have seen on the movie Armageddon and would have expected it to be digging through an out of control meteor. Donald remotely controlled his alien shredding machine from a few feet away ensuring to not touch neighboring plants and concrete. He proceeded to grind away the 2 new stumps, all of their of their exposed roots, the mess of other roots above and below ground, and the giant 3+ foot stump in about an hour. When he told me on the phone he would be done with my job in a couple hours I thought there would be no possible way. Well he did it, and in under 2 hours. Within that 2 hour period Donald?s crew also cleaned up all of the debris from the removed trees and the stump/root grindings. He also leveled the backyard for me and made it ready for the deck and fence post installation the next day. When he was done in the backyard, minus the now missing trees/roots/stump, you would have never been able to tell that he was there. His crew cleaned all debris from the street, both neighbors yards, and made it look perfect. He accomplished what I thought would have never been done without a Bobcat or heavy duty excavation equipment!!!!! While Donald was on site I also asked him to take a look at an old menacing stump in my front yard. The stump basically left me with no possibility to landscape my front yard. The stump was also surrounded by 20+ year old shrubs that have long seen their better days. I planned to remove the shrubs with the my truck in the spring, but was curious to see if Donald could grind the stump for me while he was there. He took a look at the front yard and said to me ?for 150 bucks I will make this front yard ready to plant whatever you want and landscape it however you want.? I thought about it for a second and asked him if he could come back and do it in the spring. Donald professionally informed me that $150 was a super low price and it was because he already had his crew and equipment on site. I had no other option but to give him a thumbs up and watch him do his magic. In about 15 minutes my front yard was completely void of the old stump and massive shrubs. I asked him if he could place some of the mulch he made from the trees in the backyard on the now bare ground front yard. His crew spread the ground trees/stump on the front yard and made it look like a professional landscaping crew manicured my front yard. AMAZING!!!!!!!! I will recommend to every person I ever talk to, and everyone viewing Angie?s List, to use Donald and Edward?s Lawn and Tree Inc for any tree service they need. I was beyond pleased with the finished job and cannot praise Donald and his crew enough!!!!! If I ever need tree or lawn service in the future, Donald will be the only person I call."

"We hired GSB for a large addition to our home and were happy with the final product. We initially presented them with rough sketches of what we wanted. They were very attentive and came back with a better vision of our space, including the addition of a powder room and wet bar. We stressed our desired for the addition to preserve the mid-century modern look and feel of our home and they delivered. Construction progressed at a solid pace, with various work crews showing up each day. They took great care to move furniture out of the way of construction and carefully installed temporary walls to separate the new construction from our existing living space, which we continued to occupy during the entire project. Interior tarps were also used to minimize the introduction of construction dust into our HVAC system. They showed great attention to detail in our project from the suggestion of materials to the final workmanship. The overall construction quality was high and the finished product has won rave reviews from visitors to our newly-renovated home. GSB’s contract was simply-written and included notations about possible surprise costs. We noted we wanted to change our roof shingles; they were up front with the fact that our sub-roof may also need to be replaced so we could budget accordingly. This minimized the mid-construction surprises often seen on reality home renovation television shows. Overall, we were happy with GSB on every phase of our project and expect to hire them again in a few years for some interior improvements we plan."

"MRW "installed" my lawn and has maintained it for over 20 years. They do a great job and my green, thick, healthy lawn is the envy of the neighborhood. The price for their services is a great value over trying to do the same work myself. They get the timing right and the result is a lawn that I only need to water and mow."

"I contacted Earth Friendly Services this morning and I immediately received a reply.  Phil contacted me and I asked for a proposal for installing my new light.  He responded and said he would be at my home in about 15 - 20 minutes.  His responsiveness was exact. He arrived in about 15 minutes. I showed him the light fixture and he said it was no problem and he could do it today.  I also asked him if he would also install a new electrical outlet in my foyer and again he said no problem.  Phil installed the light fixture and the electrical outlet that day and he did a fantastic job.  He was very professional and the quality of work was awesome.  I was also very pleased on the price.  I have put Earth Friendly Services number in my phone book and I will sure use them again.  Thanks Phil!

FAQs for sod installation projects in Port Tobacco, MD

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
