"Excellent! I can't say enough good things about this project. We live in a 1920 Dutch Colonial, our walkway was falling apart. Miguel gave us samples to look at that would match our front Brick porch. The brickyard he sent us to allowed us to bring samples home to compare. He ordered what we wanted and within 4 days began the project. He came early in the morning and stayed well into the evening and completed the job in 2 days from demolition and removal of the old walk to the installation of the new one. He seeded the lawn that edged it. We selected him because he a patio and driveway and walkway for our nextdoor neighbors. We've lived here since 1974 and people trust the contractors we use. We highly recommend him and we always like to hire local owner operated businesses. For an additional fee he planted 2 trees in the front of the house. We are very satisfied."

"In late fall, I noticed that a piece of a stone wall abutting my driveway had broken off and was drifting into the driveway. Concerned that the wall would fall into the driveway, I contacted Quinn Brothers Masonry. They came out within two days, assessed the situation and gave me an estimate. The work involved taking down both walls, knocking off old mortar on the stones, and removing ivy. After the walls were taken down, protective covering was placed on the exposed dirt, and drainage pipes and gravel were installed. They then rebuilt the walls, using the original stones. While rebuilding the walls, Patrick Quinn advised me that my stone house foundation had been compromised by paint and old mortar. I authorized additional work to restore the foundation. The paint on the stone foundation was removed and the old mortar was taken out. Then, the entire foundation had new mortar installed. I am extremely pleased with the results and will definitely hire them again."

"They arrived very promptly, ready for work dressed in their company jackets with excellent leaf blowers. The .42 acre lot, with many trees, had not been raked all season. We have a Certified Wildlife Habitat property, and mulch the leaves ourselves to put in the beds. As we had asked, they used a tarp to move the ever-growing pile of very wet leaves (after 3 days of rain) to the area at the back of the property we had designated. It took them less than 2 hours, and the price was very reasonable, $55 less than the other landscaper we had engaged who never showed up. We are very pleased, and intend to call Brison through the year for our seasonal landscape chores, highly recommend."

"Antonio and his coworker showed up on time and removed an entertainment center and a large sectional sofa from our house. They worked quickly and cleaned up afterward.  They were very professional and courteous.

"I consulted with Paul regarding a severe slope in the backyard of a home I am purchasing. He took great care to explain what my options are with the yard, and gave me some rough estimates on what it would cost to implement the various solutions. He was very responsive and patient, answering my many (probably stupid) questions easily, happily, and in layman's terms. He spoke with me on the phone for about 45 minutes actually. This in addition to going to the time he spent looking at the yard and evaluating its stability, comparing it to the neighbors', and looking for details that might indicate anything potentially dangerous. Details that I would never think of, like the condition of the driveways. Luckily he didn't find anything too bad. Other than a yard that needs a pretty big investment to make it really nice. But that's not his fault, and he even gave me ideas on how to minimize costs.
After speaking with Paul, I asked a couple of engineers at my job what they thought of my situation, and they said the same things Paul did. His evaluation was spot on. In addition, he was a genuinely nice guy. We traded stories about our kids and he gave me some excellent advice. I'm saving up to use him in the future and would absolutely recommend him to anyone who needs to do work in their yard.

"John Beck called before he arrived with his crew.  They cleared my property of leaves, raking where necessary.  They removed piles of brush and cleaned my gutters.  My yard looked like it would on a summer's day - spotless!  John even worked with an injured hand.  I received a very reasonable rate for spring lawn care.  I will definitely be using Beck's Landscaping services next year."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Prospect Park, PA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
