"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"We had a mold issue in and under our house. After <br /> testing we contracted PW Stephens to do a pasteurization process. The process <br /> is heating the space to about 160° and hold it there for about 4  hours. <br /> The area under <br /> the house worked OK, however a room in the house didn’t. Mold returned almost <br /> immediately.  There was no visible mold <br /> anywhere, it could just be smelled. <br />   <br /> We had issues <br /> with Stephens from the start. First they showed up hours after scheduled. There <br /> was an equipment issue; the technician felt they didn’t have the correct equipment. <br /> This was resolved. The job was completed and the technicians were great. <br />   <br /> When mold <br /> issues recurred about a week later, it was impossible to get either an E Mail <br /> or phone response from Stevens. Finally we did and Stephens then responded <br /> quickly.  However, again crew arrival was hours after <br /> scheduled. <br />   <br /> In the mean time we got an invoice for the initial work <br /> – fine. A day later we got a second invoice, for the same amount, saying <br /> “payment due”. <br />   <br /> The second part of the job involved removing lots of <br /> books from a room – which was an extra charge – OK. The job was done, but after <br /> that they never returned and, again, we were unable to get a response via phone <br /> or E mail for returning the room to as it was. <br />   <br /> We held payment, hoping for a reply. When a second <br /> invoice arrived it included the amount of the first job. The date of the second <br /> invoice was days after the deposit of our first check! <br />   <br /> We finally just gave up. <br />   <br /> Be prepared!! <br />   <br /> <br />"

"I had my old popcorn ceiling removed by an asbestos abatement company and was left with just the drywall. So S & Y came and textured the ceiling. Then they came back later after the texturing had dried and painted the ceiling and the rest of the room. Before they started I myself had the room emptied of furniture and plastic sheeting up. They started the job soon after I accepted the bid. The work was done in a timely manner and professionally performed."

"Well, we are buying an older home that we know needs work.  While I'm a bit handy, I did want some additional information and background.  Plus, as the house has a cellar, radon testing was a no brainer.  I arrived early at the house at the time of inspection, and Jason Thompson had already arrived.  To make a long story short, Jason spent the next 3 hours walking around and through the house.  He had a number of findings, and it felt like a thorough walkthrough.  As for the radon, Lynda King was on site to collect the radon devices.  They both answered my myriad of questions. <br /> Do I expect that we found everything wrong with the house?  Goodness no.  I'm certain that there are numerous small issues that we missed, but I still feel that this was a thorough review and inspection. <br /> The reports were received on a Saturday evening, a quick turnaround in my opinion. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Redwood City, CA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
