"I got home from being in the hospital for 1.5 days and we put our car in the garage Sept 4th afternoon. We heard a odd noise as we walked away from the garage. The right spring broke. We started by calling our door installer from 2011. They were nice and walked us thru a few steps to get the garage door open. They were busy that day in Maple Grove but could only come Sept 8. The referred us to TCGD. <br /> I called them. They sounded like it wouldn't be able to be done that day/it was getting a little late / yet unless it was emergency service. This was approx 1:30-2:00 at the latest Friday afternoon. I went along with this since I didn't like the sounds of having my garage door out of service until Sept 8. So I was expecting someone to come after 5:00 or so since this was their office hours on their website. They said a person would call when they were on the way. They showed up without calling about 3:05-3:10 Friday afternoon. The person was totally finished and showing me the paperwork at 3:40 or before. He showed me the paperwork and it showed $403. I thought  the total shouldit be less since this couldn't be emergency service this early. I called the office later they said most field workers work from 7:00-3:00/3:30. Emergency rates start at 3:00 PM. I have never faced this with any home repair in my life. A little early when the office is open until 5:00. The installer said he had 40 hours in by Wednesday. I think I was put in the Overtime pool. The installer on my left spring looked used and rusty. I was informed it wasn't used. The springs come that way on a pallet then they can be pulled against each other in the truck. It looked in a lot tougher shape then the right spring. Rust was normal too. This spring looked tougher than my non-rusty spring that had broke. The safety cable on the right side was all twisted. It wasn't apparent what it could do all twisted up. <br /> No Angies List discount unless you purchase one of the deals ahead of time. <br /> The second time they were going sending out the same installer after ordering an different spring. I said I would rather have someone else/another set of eyes. They said they could do that.  A second installer came back Friday Sept 11th was supposed to call. He showed up at 1:00. He replaced the tough looking new left spring the other installer had put in. He adjusted the safety cable so it wasn't twisted/crossovered. He also lubed the springs. It makes them look alot better and stronger. <br /> Tonight I noticed a bulge (not bent) in one of the pieces of the garage door as the car head lights. I'm curious if something it too tight. I don't recall the door having this before. Unsure what is up with that yet. I may want them to look at this too. Something with the spring may be pulling too tight. <br /> The most aggravating thing I would like to have adjusted/reduced on my credit card is the price I paid for the Emergency Service ($150-$200 higher) at 3:07 PM (then done in under a 1/2 hours) on a Friday afternoon and alot of the work was re-worked or improved by the second installer on Sept 11th. The quality work was done during non-emergency service 1:00 PM Friday Sept 11th. <br /> This was my experience with this company. <br /> <br />"

"I contacted Grace for an estimate on replacing an electrical panel and they replied very quickly. I ended up adjusting my project so it didn't require their services. However, if I need electrical help in the future I will definitely be calling them. They were very professional and priced competitively.  <br />"

"The person performing the service had to make several trips because one of the "new" parts turned out to be faulty. I found both Complete Protection and their local repair contractor to be both very responsive and totally professional at every stage of the repair process."

"arrived on time, looked at tank turned of pump and ran water and I had to run out to garage and get air in air tank to put in pressure tank. and found bladder was leaking air when all water was spent. then messed with pressure switch and he concluded it seems to be faulty but it works for now. he recomends new pressure tank replacement. if it would have been a little more resonable price to tell me what i already knew I may have called him to replace. <br />"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Remer, MN

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
