"Kevin and crew did a great job .. they sealed my driveway and filled some cracks and then shortly after an unexpected heavy downpour ruined the job, but Kevin came out the next am and reapplied the sealant .."

"Showed up with a crew of the day after I said I would sign a contract and did a good job for a very reasonable price. I was planning a repair because I thought paving the driveway would be too expensive, He quoted me a price on the repair and on paving it and I told him to go ahead and pave it."

"Excellent response time from website submission. Excellent communication across the board. Very competitive price. As requested, removed portion of driveway that was cracking and re-asphalted, then sealed misc cracks and applied sealer. Crew was polite and professional. Had a minor problem due to overnight rain and the issue was resolved promptly with a complete reapplication instead of just a few areas - I couldn't ask for more."

"Contacted Absolute Asphalt back in December 2018 as we neared completion of the construction of our new home. We got quotes from three contractors. Absolute was $2k less than one quote and $9k cheaper than the other. We had a pretty good size area we wanted paved at almost 5,000 sq/ft. With the abundance of positive reviews for Absolute Asphalt and a price far better than others, we committed and scheduled to have the driveway installed. Second wettest year on record didn't help with scheduling. Jay Wood kept in touch and made several trips to our Matoaca home to evaluate the conditions. Towards the end of April, things dried out and we had a firm date. They showed up on time with a crew of 10 workers. The owner, Brian Rodill, was onsite and engaged during the entire install. Four hours of non-stop work, my driveway was done. After several rains since, there is almost no standing water. The driveway looks absolutely wonderful. So nice to spend this much money and be totally satisfied."

"We have a spring that goes under our drive way so we have to wait until it was extremely dry to have it done. We had to change the date but it wasn't because they didn't try to come. It was because of unforeseen circumstances This is the first time we've had an asphalt driveway and this is the first time we're getting it sealed. The people before that lived here never took care of that. the company was very good they made sure everything was aligned they did a good job they are going to come back Thursday because once it was dry there was a couple of spots that need some additional work done. They did give us a discount for using them from Angie's list. We had those couple of spots that need to be touched up but they are more than happy to come out and make us happy. They were very accommodating. Since we had that problem, they are trying to make sure that everything is dry so that they can do a good job. They came out a couple of time but weren't able to do the job. They are in Richmond and we are north of Richmond by about 20 miles It wasn't easy for them to always come out here but they did they were very responsible. If we had questions they always got back to us. If they weather changed they would call and let us know that they weren't going to come out. I think they are a good company."

"Excellent job. Concrete was almost one foot thick but cut twice to get perfect line. Driveway level and meets needs. Aesthetically very pleasing. I originally had some concerns over puddling. Rick promptly came back to review and noted how this is normal for first year as asphalt reacts with water and would also decrease over time. After less Han a month, I have noticed significant reduction. I have had 3 neighbors comment on how good it looks. Price was reasonable for the space (about 1440 square feet). I would certainly recommend Total Asphalt to anyone."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Richmond, VA

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
