Small jobs welcome

"We hired JM Concrete to remove an old broken sidewalk and pour a new one for the entrance to our home. They did a wonderful job. They are easy to get in touch with and good at returning phone calls. They gave us an excellent price on the job. They were professional, courteous, and worked hard. We are very pleased with the finished product. I would definitely recommend this company."

"I had very prompt response to my initial and subsequent queries. After delaying due to excessive storm and hurricane weather, the job was done neatly, professionally and expertly. He matched the bricks and now the steps are not just repaired, but my railing is more secure than it ever has been!"

"I cannot say enough good things about Tyrone and Adiches Concrete & Construction. We could not be more pleased with the results. We hired Tyrone to pour a 1200 sqft monolithic slab/foundation for a two-story building. He advised us on options and materials to keep costs down and manage their availability. He kept us informed of the progress at every step of the project. If weather or materials changed beyond his control, he quickly suggested options to keep the project moving. You can easily reach them by phone or text during the entire project. The crew was polite and friendly. Their experience was evident from the start of the project. The attention to detail is impressive, from prep and pour to finishing. I highly recommend using Adiches and will do so for all our future concrete work. At a minimum, have Tyrone come out for the education. You won’t be disappointed."

"The most challenging part of the job for us was removing all of the furniture from the family room as well as taking up the laminate floor prior to Concrete Jack's arrival. Two workers arrived on time, drilled holes in the slab, injected the foam and "lifted" the slab back to level. Before they left they filled the drilled holes with a concrete mixture. I think their part of the job was finished within an hour. Then my wife and I re-installed the laminate floor and put the furniture back in the room. Our part took many more hours than their part for this particular job. Overall very happy with the result."

"After 5 years of self cleaning my stone kitchen floor and not being able to remove all of the dirt and grime buildup, I finally hired Rose Restoration to professional clean my floor. They did an outstanding job. The floor looks new again! The service technician was punctual and worked extremely hard for 6 hours. It was well worth the price and I will have them back in a few years for another spruce up."

"After soliciting estimates from several concrete leveling contractors, we chose A-1 Concrete Leveling.  From the first phone call, we were impressed with their professionalism and expertise.  Owner Mr. Barry Schoen returned our call promptly and accommodated our schedules to provide a detailed inspection and cost estimate of the work we wanted completed.  During his inspection of our sidewalks, Barry provided a detailed explanation of the leveling process, including time requirements and materials to be used.  Kudos to A-1 Concrete for using environmentally friendly compounds!   <br /> On the morning of the scheduled day of work, Barry called an hour in advance to confirm his arrival time. <br /> Barry and two additional hard-working, knowledgeable, and courteous technicians arrived on time and immediately went to work. <br /> Due to the multiple areas of sidewalk that needed leveling, the crew worked continuously from morning to late afternoon without a break. Throughout the day, the crew answered all our questions and offered suggestions on repairs not discussed during the original inspection and estimate. Upon completion, the crew thoroughly cleaned the work area. <br /> We are very pleased with the finished results.  This company's name accurately describes their performance, <strong>A-1 start to finish!</strong> <br /> Without hesitation, I would use A-1 Concrete Leveling again and highly recommend this company to friends, family, and neighbors. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Richmond, VA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
