"The company that originally installed the radon remediation system was no longer in business and I suspected that it would be difficult to hire someone to fix an existing system. I found Coletta Radon Systems through comments from others on this list. Mr. Coletta evaluated the problem, located a motor that would work with the existing system, and installed it in the same afternoon. (Newer systems use smaller vent pipes and smaller motors.) He also placed the motor in the basement instead of the atic where the original motor was placed so that I could hear and see that it was functioning. He even put an EasyRead system on the pipe so that I can verify that the system is functioning at capacity with just a glance. He also added a pigtail so I could have the motor plugged into a socket because I was having some electrical work done and it wasn't finished. As far as pricing goes, you should look at other people's comments. I looked through the list and found the first honest looking person that looked like he'd help someone in a tough situation that I could find and hired him. I'm very pleased and would recommend him."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Earl is awesome! In-depth, informative, educational, personable, thorough, deliberate and punctual... and many other superlative words that can't come to mind right now! <br /> I explained my needs during the initial call and after agreeing to proceed with his service we selected a few services from his "menu."  We chose a few water and air sampling tests in addition to the typical structural inspections.  Armed with a camera, a probe, a flashlight and testing meters we began to methodically dissect the entire house. <br /> I paid not only for his report, but also his advice and commentary as I accompanied him for the 4+ hour inspection.  We went room by room, section by section.  Every time he took a photo there were a few minutes of explanation that helped me understand what he was seeing. <br /> Since the inspection was so long ago, we've had zero unexpected issues and I've used his report as a punch-list to focus my work around the house.  Earl's inspection was right on the money! <br /> Due to the height involved and my specific requests, I had contracted for an external masonry chimney inspection.  When that inspector arrived, it turned out that Earl was one of his HS science teachers.  Out of earshot from Earl, I got a glowing review of his character from a former student of 15 odd years ago.  That told me more than I could have gained by reading a review! <br />"

"Inspectors tripped two circuit breakers and shut off the water pump circuit breaker, I didn't know until I had no water later in the day. They claimed my bathroom GFI was defective. The GFI is only 6 months old and is used on a daily basis with my hairdryer. It will shut off properly when the buttons are pressed and resets properly as well. Mud was tracked all over the carpets upstairs. Claimed the "foundation stones were loose" but it was a new small hallway addition on new pressure treated wood. The stones outside were loose and laid against the wood so that it coordinated with the original stone foundation. All they had to do was move a rock and they would have seen it. These guys were young and obviously weren't experienced with antique houses."

"For those of you already weary from reading the first part, I will give you a break. Mr. Lampro is One Spectacular Professional. For the rest of you, read on. For me, professionalism is having the expertise to do the right thing in the right way at the right time. I understand <br /> that people need to make a living but if you are ?professionally reputable? you not only demonstrate that you possess a qualified skill-set and knowledge base, you exhibit an enthusiasm for doing the best job possible. You are not only polite but you feel a responsibility to ?partner? with your client in a complete and thorough discussion of your work. Everyone purchasing real estate has heard somewhere the phrase ?caveat emptor.? To that I would add,? You don?t always get what you pay for, but you rarely get more.? Mr. Lampro is one of those professionals who give you everything they?ve got, and in my estimation, something more. He fully met and exceeded my expectations. Not only did I get an extremely thorough report, I got an education and the peace of mind I needed to decide that at this age I know my limitations. I decided that I couldn?t even make an offer on the property.  <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Rindge, NH

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
