"Kevin, the plumber, was excellent. He explained everything and even went over care for the new pump. He even took away the old pump for recycling. GREAT JOB and the cost was very reasonable. Highly recommend Flo-Maxx!"

"I first discussed this job with Patrick in October 2018 as they were out to remedy an issue with my old catch basin and I wanted to budget for the basin. I got an estimate and called in February 2019 to schedule to get the work done. Patrick was responsive to the request to schedule the work. They got all the materials upfront and I paid half at the start and the balance after the completion. It took two days to complete the job. They also added new main drain line from the basin to the house. They camera inspected the line before leaving. I also got a 10 year warranty that is transferable if I sell the home. This is the second job that Patrick worked on at my rental and I am happy with the work and cost. Also he looked at a slow draining sink for us. Patrick is very knowledgeable and reliable."

Customers say: Quick response

"Byran and his crew arrived promptly and gave us estimates for various plumbing jobs that we needed including a floor drain upgrade for furnace condensation drainage. Several options were offered for clearing our drains and the most expensive ones were avoided by reaming through some tricky sewer traps. Although they needed all day for the floor drain, they left the area neat and clean. <br />"

"Nathan was very patient with all my questions and respects those who can do some DIY work. I tried to repair the issue on my own but ultimately needed to replace the entire pump. He installed a new one and it’s working great."

Customers say: True professional

"The tenants in my condo emailed me Sunday night on July 4th weekend to say that both sides of the kitchen sink had filled with black gunk after they tried to use the garbage disposal. The water / black gunk was stagnant in the sink, and the disposal didn't seem to be working. <br /> I called multiple plumbers and most were booked up for 2-3 days because it was right after a holiday weekend. In that round of calls, I had left a message for Charlie, and he called back within the hour. He said he was booked all day but would see if he could get to the condo at the end of the day or first thing the following day. <br /> He also happened to mention that he worked until 6 pm.  When my tenants contacted me at about 6:30 pm to say they hadn't heard from Charlie, I guessed that some jobs had run over and the day got hectic and he just couldn't get to our job. But then 5 minutes later, he actually called to say he on his way. I was impressed by that because he went out of his way to help us and worked at least two hours longer than he had planned to. That's good customer service -- and the sign of someone with a strong work ethic. <br /> Within an hour or two, he had the sink unclogged and restored to normal -- no need to replace the garbage disposal or anything else. He called me when it was all done to explain everything, and he offered to email me an invoice. I didn't have to provide a credit card over the phone, which would have been fine but an invoice is nice, too, because I can pay it with my other bills. He even called after he send the invoice to make sure I received it. <br /> Overall, I was impressed by his work ethic and his overall attitude. He was professional on the phone but very nice and cordial. I had called another plumbing company, and they were polite and professional but came off as a little too corporate -- almost a little cold. Charlie was the complete opposite."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Riverdale, IL

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
