"I fell for a computer scam where the scammer claimed to be with a computer service firm contracted by Microsoft to repair a dangerous flaw with Windows 10.  I was suspicious, but let them access my computer remotely.  I hung up when they started talking about offering to protect my computer for a price.  The Microsoft website describes these scams.   I was worried that my computer was compromised so I called ATR and had them check my computer for maleware.  I had to wait a day or two to get an appointment, but they contacted me at the scheduled time and performed the work remotely and efficiently.  The ATR rep was courteous and  and willing to spend time answering questions beyond the minimum required to service the computer.  This is the second time I have used ATR and have been pleased both times. <br />"

"Mr. Tom Saner (co-owner with his brother, Jim) and his team remodeled two of our 1970s bathrooms several months apart. <br /> <br /> They did a complete tear-out back to the studs in the small shower enclosure in our master bedroom and a tear-out to the studs in our full 2nd floor bathroom around the bathtub. We decided to install Oynx rather than tile for the walls in both locations, and are very happy with that decision. They also tore out the old carpeting and installed the new porcelain tile we selected on both floors. <br /> <br /> Tom and team also removed the old wallpaper in both bathrooms, installed long-missing exhaust fans in both bathrooms, replaced the existing lighting fixtures with fixtures I purchased, upgraded the electric in both bathrooms to a three-switch plate that controlled the existing lighting plus the new fan, painted both bathrooms with the colors I selected, installed new shower fixtures, and installed grounded electrical outlets by both sinks. We kept our existing marble countertops, sinks, and sink fixtures. <br /> <br /> The crews working on both bathrooms were prompt, always courteous, and answered all our questions thoroughly before, during, and after the work was done. The tear-down of each bathroom went smoothly, and the crew cleaned up everything and hauled off all the remodeling debris quickly at the end of each day. We were living in the house day-to-day during both projects and hardly noticed dust or any other left-overs after the demolition was completed both times. <br /> <br /> We encounted two unexpected problems during our remodels. When the team removed the wallpaper in our full bathroom, the existing popcorn ceiling was damaged. Tom and team told us about it immediately and after an extensive discussion of the possible fixes with costs for each, we decided to have the team re-spray the popcorn across the entire ceiling . Tom charged us for only half of this unexpected repair. The second unexpected problem was having to ask them back to increase the structural support for the shower head in our master shower (I'm short and couldn't adjust the shower head settings because of too much movement in the head). One of Tom's workmen returned promptly the day after I called Tom and fixed this. Tom did not charge us for this work. <br /> <br /> Overall we are very pleased with the quality of Jim Saner's work and their very fair pricing. Our two remodeled bathrooms have been in use now for more than a year, and everything remains perfect. We definitely recommend Jim Saner, Inc. for bathroom remodeling."

"Electric by Miller professionally and quickly provided a detailed estimate (which came in as best price among 3 estimates recieved) for the following work performed: Trenched and backfilled ditch, eliminating existing underground dock electrical service. Pulled new wire in conduit from garage to dock walkway and throughout renovated boat dock. Installed new 8-circuit disconnect/breaker panel (with required signage). Installed GFCI recepticle with weather proof panel at pole light. Installed 3 vapor lights fixtures (one with motion sensor), light switch and 4 GFCI receptacles w/ in-use covers. They provided all required paperwork/plans to the GRDA (approving authority for all things dock related), to include inspections which eliminated all administrative burden on me. <br /> <br /> Only days prior to work biginning, I requested a change order for extending the dock service lines around future site of a pool and outdoor kitchen/bar and to lay in and stub up additional 220 and 110V services at this projected location. They accomodated this 11th hour request and quickly turned a reasonable (cost) change order to the original estimate and began work shortly after this request. <br /> <br /> Upon job completion, they went the extra mile(s) in retrieving operating manuals from their purchase source, scanning and e-mailing me the operating manuals for the light and motion detection systems so I had details on max bulb sizes, optimal settings, etc.--very helpful! <br /> <br /> The proprietor (Kathy Miller) personnally inspected the completed job and determined that the light fixture/motion sensor combination was not as good as it should be (safety wise) for lighting the walkway approach to the dock (at night). She ordered a change to a flood light from the vapor light fixture...at the company's expense. <br /> <br /> I'm VERY impressed and pleased with the work done, competitive pricing and overall customer service and care! <br /> <br /> Electric by Miller is my Electrical Contractor of choice...and in this area they should be yours too!"

"<p>He has done a custom-built closet, which turned out beautiful. He also has completely gutted and remodeled a downstairs bathroom. It turned out beautiful. We bought our hot tub from him when he was in the hot tub business. We have had the hot tub for 16 years. He does very good work and is pretty knowledgeable, but one has to have patience with him because he gets off in different directions sometimes. I put up with it because I like what he does. Some people might be a little bugged because sometimes he says he will be back tomorrow, but then doesn't show up until several days later.  The only issue I have with him is his timeliness. He is working on my deck right now. He is repairing where I have a 100-year-old tree that grew and put a hole in the deck and buckled it up. We are just getting started on that project. For us he has done carpentry, plumbing -- he installed all the toilets and did all the plumbing work. He is also a licensed electrician so he has done electrical work and you name it -- deck work. He is kind of a jack of all trades. Right now I know he is working on someone's basement, supporting steel beams and all that stuff. That is why he has not finished my deck work because he is busy with the basement. He also put in our garbage disposal for us. That guy has done so much I can't remember everything. I have been dealing with him, probably, 20 years plus. On the fence his cost was about $3,000 and the materials were the other $3,000. He will save people money because he has the customer buy the materials after he tells them what he needs. He takes no markup in the materials. He even went with me when I  bought the materials for the fence. He only charges you for his labor. I have several other project for him to do including putting on a garage roof. </p>"

"The owner came out and did a walkthrough with me himself. He had an estimate ready within two days, and in that time I had thought of a couple things I wanted done that I forgot while we were doing our walkthrough. We had an update later the next day. He sent two employees out the next week to do all of the things I asked for; they were done within 8 hours and had cleaned up any mess made. The pot lights they put in in our living room was not an easy job. The living room is on the bottom floor, and we have a second story, so they did not have attic access to run the lines. They fished wire for six potlights and only made two holes! Amazing! However, they do not repair drywall damage, just so you know. We could have done the things we had done ourselves, but it definitely would have taken us a lot more time and even more frustration. They were very pleasant to work with, and it was definitely money well spent."

"Repaired the broken screen on our iPad in a very timely manner - less than a week to repair it and ship back to me. They emailed me with updates throughout the process and even refunded some of the amount i had originally sent because the damage was less than anticipated. I give a lot of credit for that alone. Overall - this is a 1st class business and I wouldn't hesitate to trust them again with any issues. We are very pleased and thank Angie's list once again."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Roxbury, KS

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
