"The owner and crew do top quality work at a fair price. I really appreciated the willingness of the owner to talk to me in great detail to ensure I ended up with the right type of 200 Amp meter socket exclosure and external subpanel for feeding the new installed panel inside the house but also providing for ease of adding additional future external building circuits. The owner was very helpful and knowledgeable in talking about the NEC (code) and provided excellent equipment recommendations that I ultimately had them install in preparation for all of my eventual electrical desires (House remodel, future EV charging, solar, greenhouse, sauna, external buildings, etc). They effortlessly handled the city permitting too. The city inspector freely remarked that University Electric always does good quality work and they never have return calls for resolving any workmanship issues. I highly recommend this company for any electrical work you'd like done."

"Probably not their fault but the price of electrician is pretty scary. They were very nice and did not charge me for having to come out a second time when parts were missing in the first box a fan and light. That was Menardâ s fault."

"I was looking for an electrician to help me out in my new (older) home. I needed an update on my lights in multiple rooms, wiring to a new panel, and switches/outlets replaced. Adam was very honest and straight forward with pricing and tasks he and his team were going to be completing. I was very impressed with Adam and his team on the communication aspect but also the professionalism. They installed new wiring for 3 ceiling fans with lights in my upstairs bedrooms, routed wiring for an exhaust fan in my upstairs bathroom, completed installation on exterior and interior 150 amp panel (needed to be replaced on the fact the panel was original to the home being built in 1977), and installed new lights in the living room and basement. I will be requesting the services of Adam and his team down the road when I need further electrical work done. If you want a quality electrician and honest work, Go Electric is the company to have work for you."

"The service was outstanding! I really appreciated that they sent a photo of the service provider so I would know who to expect. Not only were all of the service needs met but we discussed other services I might need or be interested in and received quotes for those. I have already recommended Harrison Electric to friends and family and will definitely call them for any future needs! Thank you"

"Working with the team from Go Electric was definitely a 5 star experience! I was looking to upgrade the service panel on a 120 year old house from 100 amps to 200 amps in order to convert to appliances from gas to electric. I have a breathing condition that is worsened by the fumes of gas combustion. The quote was fully explained. The change in the panel would also require outside work to the mast and connection to power in order to meet safety codes. Not only was quote from GO almost 3K less than other quotes for the same work, but Brandon informed me that the work would qualify for a $1500 rebate from the energy provider AND GO would help me with getting the paperwork done for that. Installation was equally smooth and stress free with power being out no longer than was explained to me. Adam and his team are real pros and they deliver great work. Inspection was completed in a week with no faults found. I strongly recommend this business for electrical work. Chris A. St Paul"

"We hired Anchor Electric to put our EV charger in and upgrade our service to 200 Amp in our garage. They do very professional work. They went out of their way to do it right and we were very happy. Highly recommend."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Saint Louis Park, MN

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
