He called within a couple of hours and listened to my concerns about our security gate.  <br /> When Tim came over to check the gate, he clearly and patiently explained the various functions. This included showing us how the gate was tied to one of our phone lines. He also tested and then had us practice using the various gate functions. Tim explained the type of gate we had (we are new owners of the house), how to maintain the gate and exactly how to use each function.  <br /> After approximately 45 minutes, we were done and I asked him how much I owed him. He replied, "Nothing, we just hope to have your business in the future." <br /> When our gate needs to be serviced, Tim K. will be the first person I will call. "This is an update for my 1 star review: New owners came out and fixed the issues I had, and improved some warped boards. Very pleased with the new owners, and I recommend. ---- original review below Decent price, and fence looks good. The guy doing the install had a problem installing the gate post, and moved it closer, making the gate narrower than agreed upon. The very next morning I mentioned it was supposed to be wider, and that was very important to me. Guy lost his temper and started arguing with me, and rebuffed my questions about the agreed spec. He then lied to his boss about it being that way for some time (I brought it up the next morning.). In response, they offered me $150 off the build, which I viewed as an insult. I let it go, because I was afraid an angry worker would do a bad job. A few days in, one of the two screws on the gate latch broke from being overly tight. At that point I contacted our sales guy, told him the story and his response was "I'll talk to him when he gets back from vacation and get back to you" or something like that. I had to contact him a second time to get the fence latch fixed. Someone came out and did so, but now you have to be careful to get the fence closed properly. He never got back to me. I did tell angry vacation man that I would never had gotten this fence if they were going to make the gate narrower. I stand by that. I'd avoid these guys."

"Altered Earth is simply the best contractor we have ever worked with - and we've worked with many as we resuscitate our century-old Victorian kit home. AE runs like a clock - on time, on budget, and (most importantly) on goal. Beyond that Mark and the crew at AE can work with vague ideas and turn them into spectacular ones. To find a contractor with both strong creative <em>and</em> project management skills is such a gift. We couldn't recommend him more enthusiastically! <br /> Specifically Mark worked to remodel 1200sf of outdoor space. We have very modern tastes and have struggled, for years, with landscapers who just don't grasp our aesthetic. From our first meeting it was clear Mark was different; he was very enthusiastic and we wound up brainstorming the basic layout in thirty minutes. And it was a collaboration. Mark would bounce ideas off of us, and we to him. Some stuck and others didn't. But it was a real partnership and that was a big win for Altered Earth. <br /> The plan called for around 300 feet of custom fencing, a hardscaped front living space including a large propane fire pit and sleek concrete planters. Mark also shared our passion for lighting and we collaborated on a setup that was both functional and dramatic. Mark also brought some truly innovative ideas to the table, like our built-in shed that is part of the fence line, leveraging an open space between to trees (hard to describe but - trust me - it's brilliant). Or running a propane feed line that terminates inside the shed, elegantly hiding unsightly propane tanks. Basically, at every turn, Mark delivered the most elegant and functional implementation possible. <br /> We did the work in late winter and early spring so there were unavoidable weather delays. Mark kept us informed and dynamically updated expectations based on the latest information. The project was initially planned to end in April but it ran into early May due to inclement weather; hardly something AE can be dinged for! Besides, we'd rather have it done right than hurriedly. <br /> AE has a talented cast of sub-contractors, notably their cement guys who were laboring for about two weeks to ensure the forms were clean, smooth, and level. Getting modern concrete right isn't easy; that smooth finish doesn't just happen. And Mark made sure it all kept to plan. <br /> Billing was awesome. Mark quoted a fixed-budget contract which meant that -- unexpected work or change orders aside -- I didn't have to worry about overruns. And there were NO surprises. Mark cast a budget and <em>stuck</em> to it. I can't begin to describe how much stress that takes out of these things. We've worked with some highly skilled contractors who did amazing work -- but they couldn't control budget so each job was like playing Russian roulette with my finances. Since Mark was heavily involved in the planning he was able to accurately predict cost and the only increases were due to minor but late changes we asked for. <br /> In the end we got the outdoor space we've wanted forever. We spend as much time in it as we can, even when it's cold. Since the space abuts the sidewalk we occasionally hear passersby compliment the fence and lighting; it's a real showcase. And, of course, it's been a singular space for entertaining. We've hosted many wonderful gatherings and our friends and family simply love spending time there. So, thanks, Mark! We're very grateful for your amazing work and hope many others leverage your many skills to bring their dream spaces to life."

Since the door was also in poor shape I decided this would be best. He gave me a written quote immediately that I thought was reasonable and after a bit of shopping around I scheduled the replacement. Work was done promptly and professionally and everything functions great!"

"I had to replace concrete steps to the front porch and sidewalk. All of the old railing had to be discarded. I tried several types of railings for a replacement and Ornamental Iron provided me with good ideas and the most reasonable price I found. They drew up a design, measured and gave me a bid in an hour or so. They were a few days late on delivery, but nothing significant and when they arrived, everything was installed and completed in an afternoon. They look great and appear to be extremely sturdy. I have already ordered a set for the back stairs."

"The process for getting quotes was fine. The sales person was friendly and showed up for appointments on time. The timeline for getting the gates and posts built was around 8-10 weeks from the time we signed the contract and paid a deposit. They dug the holes for the footings about a month prior to installing the posts and gates, so we had holes in our driveway for a month, it would have been nice if the time between the footings and the installation had been shorter. The person that drew the designs for our gates was awesome. I sent him photos of designs for some gates and fences that I liked. He did a great job of applying the designs to our gate. The frames were built perfectly - so we could add the wood to complete the project. All in all the gates exceeded my expectations. <br />"
