"they were on time and finished the work in the estimated time. It did take 10 days for carpet to arrive as with all places we checked: Lowe's, Home depot and a family owned business in Pale Alto. <br />"

"They should have more clarity with pricing. The installer was talented but his bedroom manners left something to be desired. He was very skilled but condescending. The price was close to the competitors. It ended up being more expensive but we had to have a lot of work done with the subfloor. The sales guy was very professional but the installer that came was a B. I'd give A for the sales guy and B for the installer. I would go to them again. The pricing seemed reasonable on buying the actual wood. The installer was very skilled but challenging to work with. If your floors need a lot of work in terms of leveling out a subfloor, they have very skilled people but they won't necessarily be pleasant to deal with. You'll be happy in the end with the quality of what they did."

"The whole team (sales and installation) worked around our schedule and were flexible as needed. We're super pleased with the end results - the installation team was accommodating, hard working and they kept the work area clean and organized. They performed the work within the agreed upon time frame (would have probably finished earlier if we hadn't asked them to do some additional customization). We have only praise for the entire experience."

"My contractor recommended Sam's to purchase flooring for my entire house including stairs.  I provided measurements done by my contractor who did the final install.  Sam's gave me a price that was half of a major flooring company (has radio ads) for a major brand of laminate.  We also purchased baseboards which was much better quality than large hardware chain."

"Their measurement and estimate were prompt and professional. They were patient about waiting for insurance payment to come through. They came out and took a sample to the lab for asbestos testing. <br /> Sadly there was asbestos, and we had to deal with a different outfit to remove all the old flooring and underlayment. <br /> I was surprised that City Carpets only sent one man to do the installation. A second working would have made the job go faster. And as it was, I had to help moving the refrigerator in and out. <br /> The only real problem with City Carpets' work was that the piece of vinyl, as provided by their supplier, was labelled with the wrong size! This caused a delay of 4 days after they discovered this and had to re-order. <br />"

"The gentleman who came to do the estimate was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Our stairs turn twice, and he was able to explain the different options and the benefits of each. He also explained how we could create a small area rug from the same carpet, which we had not thought of. The gentlemen who installed were prompt, neat, professional, and good. The entire process was done in less than 3 hours."

"Iused Gil a few years ago for my hardwood floors and when it came time to carpet the upstairs I would not even think about using anyone else.  Gil's Hardwood operates the way businesses did way back when, you know when customers mattered,  phones were answered by humans, service  given with a smile and work  done to perfection...the first time.  Gil and his crew are highly professional, know their business  and give 125%. <br /> These guys worked in the most extreme weather conditions to get the job done and somehow managed to keep a smile on their faces.  They worked almost 12 hours...barely stopping to get the job done.  I am in awe of their dedication, commitment and the fabulous job they did on my carpet install.   <br /> This is not a fly by night business having "blow out sales" every week, nor a "big box" store that will not stand behind the product once installed, but a locally owned company that has been in business for many years in an out of the way location.  You will not be disappointed! <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in San Anselmo, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
