"John and his family were very professional and punctual. They came, performed air testing and disbursed the results in a timely manner.   They seemed pretty thorough with the inspection. They worked with us given our tight schedule. An excellent experience. <br />"

"Excellent company! Very easy going in scheduling and doing the job AS SUPPOSED TO BE! They recommended a company for the drywall after the asbestos were removed. However, we said we will shop around. They were fine with the idea. We did go with the company that they recommended, though Synergy workers were punctual, professional, and on task. They have a supervisor who came twice to check on the work performed and the person who verified that no asbestos was present before we would come into the house. We did not do the whole house; definitely we will contract them when we need to do the rest. Everything as should be!"

"Certified-Environmental was highly recommended by a company I've used and trusted in the past (Pacific Reconstruction, INC) when I used them to remediate some water related damage. The post 'clean-up' required hiring a company that was highly knowledgeable and experienced in quality air testing in order to make sure the remediation efforts had effectively addressed all issues. Pacific Reconstruction provided the contact info for Certified-Environmental and let's say it was the BEST CALL I could have made!! Mr Richard Gray provided me with a detailed description of what needed to take place and the reasons for the extensive testing. He was highly informative, but also made it a point to patiently translate the detailed complicated terminology for my layman's understanding. I am so grateful to have found Certified - Environmental Inc as they are EXTREMELY well versed and knowledgeable in what is a highly technical and scientific arena. Richard Gray and his partner/daughter Jayce, are an EXCEPTIONAL TEAM ... I've used their services a few times now and HIGHLY RECOMMEND their company."

"The estimator was very pleasant and knowledgeable on phone and in person. Very quick turnaround from my initial call to appointment day for estimate. Arrived on time for appointment and was efficient. Written estimate sent very quickly after inspection. The quote was very reasonable. But Alliance does not send air abatement samples to lab. It would have had to been done independently.  And the deciding factor for me was I wanted a company who provided a complete package, i.e., not only remove popcorn from ceilings, but texture and paint as well--plus help move heavy furniture if needed.  Because Alliance did not offer the extra services I decided on another company who did. Had I the time and desire to texture and paint ceilings myself-- or locate others to finish the job -- I may have chosen Alliance. <br />"

"Z-con was a little hard to contact (they didn't always call back in a timely manner). However, the work appears to have been done very well--they hauled away (in plastic bags), the asbestos-wrapped materials. They also completely removed an old heater system that was attached to the ducting. Their price was competitive and their workers arrived on time and left the work area clean and free of debris/material. They also did a good job covering up all of the ducts inside the house before removing the asbestos under the house."

"I needed help evaluating the safety of my deck which was being rebuilt. David was very helpful, accommodating my schedule by coming in the evening. He was so thorough, courteous, informative and went above and beyond pointing out potential problem areas and giving me guidelines. I am extremely grateful and impressed with the outstanding customer service. Thank you David! :-) <br />"

"They email me every so often and they follow up with me as far as where I'm at in the decision process instead of just blowing it off or dropping the lead. We had other quotes and P W Stephens seems to be higher so I guess that's the other side of it. Just on the surface, they seem to be more interested in following up which I think is a good thing. On the other side of it, they were significantly higher than other quotes but those other quotes didn't follow up. With mold remediation, honestly I don't want to pay thousands more just because they followed up. This is one of those bottom line kinds of things. This is the kind of thing where no one will see it, you just need to pass an air test. It's not like kitchen remodeling where people will see it and so they will be able to judge how well your kitchen looks. With mold remediation, either it passes or it doesn't so I don't want to spend thousands more to pass the test. The other side of P W Stephens right now is they seem to have more of a follow through on customer's interest but they seem to be significantly more."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in San Jose, CA

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
