He said none of these concerns interfered with the safety or integrity of our roof, and explained everything in a way that a layperson such as me would understand. In short, Rick said our roof is in great shape and doesn’t need to have anything done at all. He could have simply agreed with the other contractor and racked up more business for himself if he had wanted to do so; instead he didn’t charge me a cent for his time and effort although I would have been very happy to pay for the peace of mind he gave me. "Overall, the job went very well. Aaron was the supervisor and was able to expedite my job to a window in his schedule that no other contractors were able to accommodate. There was a nice week between storms that he got his crew in to remove the old tiles, clean up, perform inspections and get the new materials installed. There was a minor glitch in the removal part of the job (a rain gutter was damaged), but Aaron handled it exceptionally. At the end of the job, I asked Aaron to take my phone camera onto the roof and take pictures, since I can't get up there myself to inspect. He provided excellent photos of all the critical areas of the roof, louvers, pipe outlets, etc. He even provided photos of the chimney stucco that shows extreme weather damage, so I can show them to the next (stucco) contractor for that upcoming job. They did find a small amount and there was a small extra charge but I think it was fair. I was the neurotic customer who questioned everything because three years ago when I hired my first big contractor, I got swindled out of $9000 extra on a $5,500 job with a mechanics lien that the contractor threw at me a month after I paid the final bill. I found A-1 Roofing as one of my 5 estimates that I got before getting started. A-1 was one of the top 5 on Angies List but so were a few others. What made me choose A-1 Roofing was that asked them if they would accept another roofing contractors coupon that I saw on Angies List. Without hesitation Albert Apodaca knocked $400.00 off his price which was already the lowest but he did not know that. In addition, his charge for materials & labor were the cheapest for any extra work that needed to be done that could not be seen in the estimate. I knew the roof was terribly bad and that there was going to be unseen problems so I took note of those charges in the original contract compared to the others. The roof was completely done in two days. Amazingly fast considering how bad the roof really was...see my pics and you know what I'm talking about. A-1 Roofing also did not bother to charge me anything up front. The roof was put on and I had not paid him a dime yet. I did pay him quickly after the roof was put on right smack in the middle of Christmas week too, but I held back $1,500 in order to take care my the driveway that got smashed up by a big truck. Without hesitation Albert wrote up a knew contract saying the $1500 would be paid after the driveway got fixed. About two weeks later I had a brand new driveway to go along with my brand new roof.
