"Charles did an outstanding job on our kitchen cabinets. The cabinets came out so good, we later hired him back to do the master bathroom. They use excellent paint and coating products that are very resilient."

"We wanted to redo the tub and shower installation. The company representative showed us a wide range of materials and and roughed out a design based on what we indicated we wanted. He gave us the price for what we wanted and told us we would be notified when the materials came in so we could schedule the start of the project. The project required removing the old tub and relocating the plumbing and shower head to a different wall. They protected all the exposed areas from dust and once they started, it only took about one week to complete the job. They cleaned after themselves everyday after their work, and upon completion of the project. They do excellent work and the new shower enclosure looks great! I would recommend them to anyone doing a bathroom makeover."

"We are very happy with Get A Grip Inc. They had to redo a job that had been done poorly. The staff was wonderful. They were able to correct a terrible problem and replace it with a product that actually as of now is doing very well. We had the work done in November and people just moved in, so we haven't used the tub yet, so we don't know how well the surface is holding up, but it looked beautiful when they were done."

"Chuck should get an A++ rating for his service, schedule, price, communication, and craftsmanship. I called Chuck after another local cabinet maker couldn't get my cabinet built in 6 weeks. Chuck's price was lower, and he got it done and installed in 6 days. His cabinet was an almost perfect match for our existing cabinetry, and he added small details like extra shelves, and a notch on the doors to help when opening that you might not notice, until you realize you wish your other cabinets had them. His touch-up work on our old cabinets makes them look brand-new. He said the touch-up might not be perfect, but he was wrong. It IS perfect. I would highly recommend Chuck for new, remodel, refacing, or any custom cabinet work you may need. Support your local craftsman! <br />"

"This was a long process due to our cost limitations and the custom cabinet-maker.  They are willing to work with you.  However, I would encourage you to make sure you are both communicating about the exact same thing.   In retrospect, what we thought we were talking about and what they were telling us were ton a different line of communication than they were speaking about.  If you get glazed over by numbers (square footage), make sure -- when you are ready to purchase -- you have someone with you who gets those numbers right away.  We purchased a slab  of granite and thought we were communicating that it would not just be for one small top, only that top was needed first.  They understood it, and wrote it down, that the measurements provided were all we needed. We understood this was the last piece of that granite available, period. We bought the slab thinking that would be enough for our future needs as well.  They sold us the slab thinking we needed just the amount for the specified job and would use the rest later for something small.   <br /> If there are questions, please speak with the owners, Sharon and Nicole.  They can solve any problems you have.  Do not let anyone else confuse you or take what they say as gospel when you have issues or concerns.  We found out that Sharon and Nicole are the ones who run the business and truly know what is going on. <br /> The kitchen counters and backsplash are done and look great. The only issue at the install was that we said we wanted to keep the left over granite (we bought two slabs, so all the granite was ours) the remaining and the installers didn't know that and had loaded it up to take it back.  Luckily, we noticed that before they left and that was taken care of. <br /> So, all in all, everything is good.  But, as is in all consumer transactions, PAY ATTENTION! <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Santa Cruz, NM

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
